Nokia Unveils New Unlicensed Mobile Access Phone

Nokia Unveils New Unlicensed Mobile Access Phone

Smartphones Sep 20,2007 0

Nokia unveiled on Thursday its new phone model 6301, which features unlicensed mobile access (UMA) technology. Nokia said the new model would begin shipping in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2007 at an estimated retail price of 230 euros ($322), before subsidies and taxes.

UMA handset users can make calls over the Internet when they are in range of an unlicensed wireless network, such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. When they move out of range, the connection will automatically revert to a GSM, GPRS or UMTS mobile phone network.

Nokia 6301 has a weight of just 93 grams and it is measuring less than 13.1mm thin. The phone also offers consumers a modern suite of features, including a 2 megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom and full screen viewfinder.

In addition, the Nokia 6301 includes:

- 2-inch QVGA screen
- USB/PC Synchronization
- Internal user memory of 30MB and 128MB in-box microSD card, with support for up to 4GB microSD cards
- Voice dialing, voice commands and voice recording
- MP3 player, FM radio
- Integrated hands-free speaker

Nokia started its first tests on UMA technology in July last year and it has already launched its 6086 UMA phone.

Orange will be one of the first operators to offer the Nokia 6301, as part of its Unik/Unique portfolio.
