South Korean flat screen maker LG.Philips LCD Co Ltd said on Tuesday it was planning to change its name to LG Display Co Ltd, pending approval at its annual shareholder meeting on February 29. The change at LG.Philips had been widely expected as LG Electronics Inc was due to take on a leading role after stake sales by joint venture partner Philips .

Philips cut its stake to 19.9 percent in share sales, the last of which was in October, while LG Electronics still holds 37.9 percent.
