LG 's First 3D Tablet Coming In March

LG 's First 3D Tablet Coming In March

Consumer Electronics Feb 2,2011 0

LG Electronics said Wednesday that it will release its first tablet PC in March in the U.S. market. LG's G-slate will be based on the Android Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) operating system and it will be released in March through T-Mobile USA. It features a high-definition (HD) 8.9-inch, 3D-capable multi-touch display, and it is powered by NVIDIA 's dual-core TEGRA 3D platform (powered by 1.2GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processors).

The G-Slate can easily be held upright in one hand for reading an eBook or magazine, watching streaming TV or browsing the Web while on the go. Featuring a rear-facing stereoscopic video recorder with 1080p for HD video capture and a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, the G-Slate makes it easy to capture moments on video or with a photo. With the front-facing camera, users can video chat with friends and family over T-Mobile?s network or Wi-Fi with Google Talk. The G-Slate also supports 720p HD on-device video playback and HDMI output to show 1080p content on 3-D and HD displays. It also supports Adobe Flash Player, it includes 32 GB of internal memory and features a built-in gyroscope, accelerometer and adaptive lighting.

LG' s tablet PC model for the global market, named the Optimus Pad, will be also first disclosed later this month during the Mobile World Congress show in Spain.

LG has been struggling in the mobile business after it failed to respond to the smartphone boom with a viable competitor to Apple's s iPhone or Samsung's Galaxy S. The company will also showacse the world's first 3D smartphone dubbed "Optimus 3D" at MWC in Barcelona from February 14 to 17.

Also Wednesday, T-Mobile is starting to sell another tablet, the Streak 7 from Dell. The device runs an Android version designed for smart phones. It costs $199 with a two-year contract for data service, after a $50 mail-in rebate.
