LaCie Warns Of Security Breech

LaCie Warns Of Security Breech

Enterprise & IT Apr 16,2014 0

LaCie has notified its customers of an incident involving the security of its customer's personal information. Lacie says that on March 19, 2014, the FBI informed the company that it found indications that an unauthorized person used malware to gain access to information from customer transactions that were made through LaCie's website.

Lacie hired a forensic investigation firm to conduct an investigation and help in the implementation of security measures. As a precaution, lacie has temporarily disabled the e-commerce portion of its website while it transitions to a provider that specializes in secure payment processing services. Lacie plans to resume accepting online orders once we have completed the transition.

Based on the investigation, Lacie believes that transactions made between March 27, 2013 and March 10, 2014 were affected. The information that may have been accessed by the unauthorized person may include names, addresses, email addresses, and payment card numbers and card expiration dates. Customers' LaCie website user names and passwords could also have been accessed, which is why Lacie required a reset of all passwords.

Lacie began notifying affected customers on April 11, 2014.

"If you see a fraudulent charge on your card, please immediately contact the bank that issued your card. Major credit card companies typically guarantee cardholders will not be responsible for fraudulent charges. Please be on the lookout and review your account statements for any unauthorized activity," Lacie said.
