HTC, Samsung and RIM attacked Apple CEO Steve Jobs today after his effort to convince consumers that iPhone's 4 antenna problem is typically met in many other available smarthpones. RIM claims that Apple is trying distort the issues surrounding the iPhone 4's antenna design by asserting that Research In Motion's BlackBerry has similar reception problems.

"Apple's claims about RIM products appear to be deliberate attempts to distort the public's understanding of an antenna design issue and to deflect attention from Apple's difficult situation," RIM said in a statement.

Samsung, the worl'd No.2 handset maker, said that it has received no significant complaints related to smartphone signal reception. The company added that Samsung mobile phones employ an internal antenna design technology that optimizes reception quality for any type of hand-grip use.

Finally HTC also defended itself saying that a just 0.016% of its customers have complained about signal or antenna problems on its Eris smarthone.

The iPhone 4 reportedly suffers from a reduced signal strength when they held the touch-screen phone a certain way, leading to dropped calls.

In response to the complaints Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs said Friday the entire smartphone industry shared such reception problems, naming specifically Research in Motion (Blackberry Bold), Samsung Electronics (Omnia II) and HTC (Droid Eris).

At a press conference held last Friday, Jobs said there were no problems with the iPhone 4's wraparound antenna design.

"This is life in the smartphone world. Phones aren't perfect. Most every smartphone we tested behaved like this," Jobs said.
