Hitachi LG announces first 5X DVD-RAM, DVD+R DL super multi-drive

Hitachi LG announces first 5X DVD-RAM, DVD+R DL super multi-drive

General Interest May 18,2004 0

Hitachi LG announced that the new super multi-DVD drive GSA-4120B will be in the market in June. The drive is the first to support 5X DVD-RAM recording available in June (Maxell). The drive will be also able to record on DVD+R DL and DVD+R at 2.4x and 12x respectively. In addition, the super multi-drive offers 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, 8x for DVD-R and 4x for DVD±RW media (recording). The cache buffer is set to 2MB, and it supports only non-cartridged DVD-RAM media.

The key technologies developed in order to realize this product are as follows.

-- Compact and high power optical pick up for 12x write
A high power laser allowing high speed recording is embedded. Its unique heat radiation structure acquires speed and stabilization, realizing high performance.

-- 1 chip LSI (DSP) for 5x DVD-RAM and 12x +R
Not only accomplished speeding up the high function LSI (DSP) of the conventional product which process all formats (DVD-RAM/R/RW, +R/RW, CD-R/RW, DVD-ROM and CD-ROM), but also succeeded in devising a 1 chip system instead of the conventional 3 chip system (DSP, MPU, SDRAM). This 1 chip LSI contributes to reduction of current consumption, high reliability and compact design.

-- High-precision LD power learning control for 12x write
By adopting the newly developed high precision LD power control learning method that applied DVD-RAM's LD power learning method, the recording quality at 12x is secured.

-- Stable and high speed disc rotation mechanism
Stable operation is also secured at high speed disc rotation to realize high quality write/read.
