Asustek aims to ship 10 million VGA cards and optical drives in 2004

General Interest Jun 10,2004 0

In addition to setting a goal to deliver 40 million motherboards this year, Asustek Computer also aims to ship 10 million graphics cards, up from the 6.25 million units in 2003, according to DigiTimes.com. If Asustek achieves its goal, the company would replace rival Micro-Star International (MSI) as Taiwan's largest maker of graphics cards. MSI shipped eight million VGA cards last year.

Asustek also hopes to ship 10 million optical disk drives in 2004, up from six to eight million in 2003.

Company chairman Jonney Shih said that Asustek has received large-quantity OEM orders for disk drives. In addition, the company plans to push sales of disk drives by bundling system and other products, Shih added.

Asustek also plans to expand its product lines to include printers and more mobile phones, Shih said.
