Asus Resumes SandyBridge Shipments

Asus Resumes SandyBridge Shipments

PC components Mar 3,2011 0

ASUS had begun shipping updated Intel Sandy Bridge notebooks, Intel 6 series chipset-based motherboards and desktops. The announcement comes after Intel has revised its Sandy Bridge design and has corrected the issues related to the new chips.

For notebook products, ASUS will begin by rolling out revised G73SW, N53SV and N53SN models, followed by N43SL, N43SN and N73SV notebooks ASUS has also marked all packaging, including shipping cartons and gift boxes, to indicate the use of revised hardware. Just look for a sticker displaying "New Revision Certified Design", located at either the palm rest areas of the notebook or on the product box itself.

As part of an overall recovery plan following the detection of the Intel 6 series chipset design error, ASUS has implemented various customer support measures, including product replacement and return with additional service hotlines around the world.

Based on new information from Intel, ASUS' updated Intel 6 series-based motherboards will begin shipping this week, immediately after the revised design is released by Intel.

Owners of Asus affected motherboards may visit http://vip.asus.com/eservice/changeSandybridge_MB.aspx?slanguage=en-us for product return and replacement details.

Additionally, users can identify revised products by checking for labels showing "New B3 Revision" displayed on products and their packaging. The chipset version can also be verified through the onboard sticker, BIOS, ASUS SATA Verifier or CPUID's CPU-Z utility.

As Intel indicated the design error only occurs with certain SATA 3Gb/s ports, ASUS has created the SATA Verifier utility to help users identify all unaffected SATA 6Gb/s ports for each relevant product. This information can be found at http://event.asus.com/2011/mb/Identify_unaffected_SATA_port/

For desktop products, ASUS will begin by rolling out revised CG8250, CG8350 and CM6650.

For users planning to buy new desktops with Intel Sandy Bridge technology, ASUS has also marked on shipping cartons to indicate the use of revised hardware. Just look for a sticker displaying "New Revision Certified Design" to rest assured the products have been fully updated.
