AMD Drives Performance, Security With New Mobile Processor For Thin And Light Notebooks

AMD Drives Performance, Security With New Mobile Processor For Thin And Light Notebooks

PC components Sep 20,2004 0

AMD today further expanded its family of low-voltage mobile processors designed to offer outstanding performance, security and true mobility for thin and light notebooks.

The new Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor 3000+ for thin and light notebooks enables a powerful 32-bit computing experience today with a seamless transition to 64-bit computing. Like all the award-winning AMD64 processors, this new low-voltage mobile processor also offers Enhanced Virus Protection (EVP) designed to prevent the spread of certain malicious viruses when enabled by Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).

“In much the same way that the Ferrari race team continues to dominate Formula 1 racing, AMD again outpaces the field with our latest 32/64-bit processor for high-performance notebook PCs,” said Marty Seyer, corporate vice president and general manager, Microprocessor Business Unit, Computation Products Group, AMD. “Consumers and business professionals who refuse to compromise power for mobility will be excited by the combination of performance, security and 64-bit capability under the hood of the new Acer Ferrari brand notebook. AMD believes that AMD64 processor-based notebooks with EVP and SP2 offer one of the most secure notebook platforms in the industry.”

The new Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor 3000+ for thin and light notebooks enables an exceptional mobile computing experience with extended system battery life made possible by AMD PowerNow!™ technology. As with the existing AMD mobile processors, PC buyers will benefit from wireless compatibility with today’s most popular wireless solutions, including wireless LAN 802.11a/b/g.

The Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor 3000+ for thin and light notebooks is the first new processor model manufactured with AMD’s 90 nanometer production process, which enables higher performance without increased power consumption.

Global PC vendor Acer Inc. has upgraded their popular Ferrari brand notebook with the new Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor 3000+ for thin and light notebooks.

"Acer continues to work with AMD to deliver the latest technology, highest performance and leading-edge security to notebook PC consumers worldwide," said Lutz Schoppe, Acer’s business director for notebooks in Europe and the Americas. "Sales of our Ferrari branded notebooks have exceeded our expectations, attracting enthusiasts and building the Acer brand. We expect similar results for the new Ferrari 3400 model based on the Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor 3000+ for thin and light notebooks."

The Ferrari 3400 notebook is expected to be available from Acer in Europe during September, with worldwide availability to follow in October.
