AGN Hardware reviewed SmartRAID V Decad

AGN Hardware reviewed SmartRAID V Decad

General Interest Jul 17,1999 0

"..So is the Decade worth it ? Yes and no. If you absolutely have to have the performance, safety and flexibility that RAID offers, then yes, the Decade is an awesome buy. If you are just trying to wet your feet a bit on the SCSI realm then perhaps the Decade is a bit too much controller for your needs. After all, to maintain a real SCSI system you will still have to run a separate SCSI controller card. I found that the Decade made a nice addition to the Tekram DC390-U2W controller card, but certainly could not replace it as I am still running Narrow and Ultra Wide devices.
For those of you who are pining for either a way to add additional U2W drives to your system or are scared for the safety of your mission critical data, the Decade is an awesome foray into what can be a very expensive market. If you want RAID under Windows 98 you may not have a choice at all. And for the faint at heart, sticking to IDE will keep you out of the poor house and away from intimidation. It's your data, and therefore, your call.." NULL
