Elantec announces laser driver which enables up to 20x CD-R/W speeds

Elantec announces laser driver which enables up to 20x CD-R/W speeds

General Interest Nov 18,2000 0

"...Elantec Semiconductor introduced a new high-speed laser driver in an ultra-thin package ideal for applications with height constraints such as those that exist for the emerging slim-line drive designs. The EL6281C is the third product of the next generation EL628XC family of laser drivers which will enable even higher read/write speed designs for products in the high growth CD-R/W optical disk drive market.

The EL6281C is a high-speed laser diode driver that provides the four current channels needed for the read, bias, erase, and write laser drive power levels. Built-in independent control of two frequency and two amplitude settings helps to reduce laser noise. The EL6281C also integrates the high frequency modulator (HFM) oscillator and the automatic power control (APC) amplifier for use with an external power monitor diode. This high level of integration saves cost by reducing component count and design time by reducing signal routing and space, thus enabling compact optical pick-up unit (OPU) design.

Pricing for the EL6281C is $2.50 in quantities of 10,000 units. Samples of the EL6281CU, in the QSOP24 package, and the EL6281CL, in the LPP24 ultra-slim package, are available immediately with production lead times of ten to 12 weeks..." NULL
