Samsung Debuts Windows 8 Hybrids at Computex

Samsung is added the list of companies that will support Windows 8 OS with the annnouncement of a series of new hybrid laptops, All-In -Ones and tablets at Computex in Taipei. Samsung showcases the Series 5 Hybrid and series 7 Hybrid notebook PCs, which have features of both a laptop and a tablet, following the concept already pioneered by Asus and Acer, and MSI - tablets with detachable keyboards.

Series 7 will be equipped with Intel's third-generation Core i7 processors, while Series 5 Hybrid PC will use the Core i5 CPUs. Both will be equipped with 11.6-nch displays.





The tablets measure 0.35 inches thick and weigh about 1.5 pounds, feature front and rear cameras, HDMI, USB, and microSD card slots as well as a SIM card slot on models with mobile broadband.

Samsung's Hybrid devices on Taipei were prototypes, meaning that their specifications were not detailed and will most probably change by October, when Microsoft is expected to release Windows 8.

Samsung has also on display the "Ultra-convertible" Samsung Notebook Series 5, which come with 1,366 x 768 LCD touchscreens. What's interesting for these devices is their their 360- degree foldable displays - useful for presentations and convenient viewing. The devices are powered by the latest Intel Core i7 CPUs and will come with 24GB SSD plus 500GB HDDs.



Samsung's "Ultra-touch" series 5 of ultrabooks are coming with a standard 13.3-inch display with a resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels, Intel Core i5 CPUs, 16GB maximum memory, 24GB SSD and a 500GB HDD. Their weight is 1.71kg (1.68kg for the SSD model) and they offer up to 7 hours of battery time.



Samsung Series 7 Slate PCs are equipped with a second-generation Core i3/i5 CPU. They come with 11.6-inch 1,366 x 768 LCD displays, Bluetooth keyboard and 128GB or 64GB SSDs. They weight 860g and their battery can power them for up to 6.1 hours.



Last but not least, Samsung's All-in-One series 7 PCs are equipped with 27-inch LCD displays, Core i7 series CPUs and support resolutions of up to 2,560 x 1,440. Other features include built-in speakers, a digital TV tuner and a BD drive.
