Latest Samsung Wave 3 Smartphones Run On Bada

Smartphones Aug 30,2011 0

Samsung today unveiled three smartphone models that run on its own Bada 2.0 operating system, the Wave 3 as well as cheaper Wave M and Wave Y. Samsung seeks to expand market share in the low-end segment and diversify its lineups heavily focused on Google's Android software.

Unveiled at Mobile World Congress in February 2011, bada 2.0 includes many new features. The new platform supports multi-tasking, Wi-Fi Direct, Near Field Communication (NFC) and voice recognition.

In addition, considering the increased use of web using smartphones, bada 2.0 supports HTML5 and improved Flash functions. By supporting standard WAC 2.0, bada aims to expand its developer community.

Samsung unveiled Wave 3 with a 4-inch AMOLED screen, a 5 megapixel camera, a 1.4GHz CPU and high-speed Wi-Fib/g/n, as well as cheaper Wave M and Wave Y.

The low-end Wave M (3.65-inch HVGA TFT display, 0.5 Mpx canera) will have Samsung's first instant messaging tool chatON installed and the Wave Y with 3.2-inch display will go on sale in October.

The three models add to 7 Wave series lineups Samsung introduced since first bada-based product went on sale in May 2010.

Last week Samsung unveiled four new mid-end models running on Android to defend its market share, as Apple is set to launch a lower-cost version of the iPhone 4 soon.
