Palm Centro might be Treo 500 on ATT&T

Palm Centro might be Treo 500 on ATT&T

Smartphones Oct 10,2007 0

Sprint will start offering the Palm Centro in a week or so, but so far Palm, Inc. has been very quiet about what other telcos will be carrying versions of this smartphone. A new image, though, shows that at least one of these will be AT&T. Gear Diary has what is apparently a picture of the device, which is referred to at the Treo 500p.

This goes a long way toward confirming what everyone has been expecting: in addition to a CDMA version of this smartphone for carriers like Sprint, there will also be one for GSM carriers like AT&T.

The image does not give any indication whether the 500p will offer support for AT&T's 3G network, but it does show that this model will have support for Push To Talk (PTT).

Sprint has a contract with Palm to be the exclusive provider of this product, so neither AT&T nor any other carrier can offer it before January of 2008.

More About the Palm Centro/Treo 500p

The new smartphone from Palm is going to be known by different names depending on which telco is offering it. Sprint is calling it the Centro, but everyone else is going to call it the Treo 500p, unless they come up their own label.

Whatever the name, this Garnet OS/Palm OS device will use a new smaller and lighter design. Nevertheless, it will still include a full keyboard and a 320 by 320 pixel touchscreen.

It will also include a 1.3 MP camera and a microSD slot with support for SDHC cards.
