New Display Sizes and Formats Coming in 2014

New Display Sizes and Formats Coming in 2014

PC components Jan 13,2014 0

As we recently experienced at CES, the flat panel product innovations continue bringing new sizes and formats this year, aimed at tablets, notebooks, smartphones, wearable devices and TVs. David Hsieh, the Vice President, Greater China Market for DisplaySearch, made his predicitions about the new display models we may see in 2014. Of course, not all of the panels listed below will go into mass production, as panel maker strategies can change. But there will be other new models not included here.

Mr. Hsieh said that the flexible displays of 2014's wearable devices will be at the 1.3"/1.6" range, with resolutions reaching the 320x320 pixels / 348/278 ppi, and also expect Apple to come up with its highly-rumored iWatch device.

High-end smartphones will have 4.7" - 6.2" LTPS TFT LCDs and AMOLEDs, at resolutions reaching the 2560x1440 for the larger models, at 386-515 ppi.
