Listen.com now offers CD burning through Rhapsody

General Interest Oct 30,2002 0

Listen.com today launched a new version of its Rhapsody subscription service that gives subscribers the power to choose where, when and how they enjoy their favorite music. For just 99 cents per track, Rhapsody 2.0 now enables consumers that subscribe to the "All Access" subscription plan to purchase and burn tens of thousands of tracks from the world's largest library of digital music. Rhapsody 2.0 also gives subscribers anytime, anywhere access to their personal music collections from any PC with an Internet connection. Since its launch in December 2001, Rhapsody has emerged as the leading music subscription service, giving consumers access to more music, higher sound quality and more listening choices than any other service. Listen.com has also made it simple for consumers to sign up for Rhapsody by assembling a large network of companies that distribute the service to their customers and visitors. Consumers can sign up for Rhapsody 2.0 through any of these companies, including Audiogalaxy, Charter Communications, DIRECTV Broadband, Down Beat, JamBase, Time Warner Cable's Road Runner, Sony's Musiclub, Speakeasy, and Verizon Online. The service is also available via the www.listen.com Web site.

Rhapsody 2.0's new features build on these strengths, introducing portability for a significant portion of Rhapsody's 250,000-song library and expanding consumers' ability to access and enjoy their favorite music, no matter where they are.

Pay As You Go CD Burning - Just 99 Cents Per Track Rhapsody 2.0 makes it simple for music fans that subscribe to the "All Access" plan to quickly and conveniently burn tracks on recordable CDs for 99 cents each. These CDs can then be played in any standard CD player. Rhapsody is the first online music subscription service to give fans the flexibility to purchase & burn individual tracks on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Rhapsody's growing library of burnable content includes more than 75,000 tracks from the digital catalogs of Universal Music Group (UMG), Warner Music Group (WMG), TVT Records, Sanctuary Records Group, and 20 additional independent record labels, including Aezra Records, ALIENEWS Label Group, Alligator Records, Aware Records, A-Train Entertainment, Blazin' Records, D-3 Entertainment, DCN Records (Digital Club Network), Foodchain Records, Future Farmer Records, Heyday Records, Instinct/Shadow Records, Lakeshore Records, LoveCat Music, Mugwamp, Native Language Music, Ninja Tune Records, Rich ID Records, Signature Sounds Recordings, and Susstones. This library will continue to expand as Listen.com secures additional burning rights from its other major and independent label partners.

"Our goal with Rhapsody is to make online music as simple, fast and flexible as possible," said Dave Williams, vice president of product management, Listen.com. "Offering CD burning is a big step in that direction, giving consumers the freedom to access the music they want, when and how they want. We're pleased to give Rhapsody users this added level of portability."

Anytime, Anywhere Access to Personal Music Collections Rhapsody 2.0 also gives subscribers access to their personal music collections from home, work, or any other Internet-connected location. When subscribers log into their accounts from a new PC, Rhapsody automatically synchronizes their library, enabling them to listen to favorite albums, playlists and radio stations.

Rhapsody remains the only service to offer music from all five major music companies - BMG, EMI Recorded Music, Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group - in addition to music from more than 90 independent labels.
