AMD And Crytek Join Forces to Unveil Action-Packed Far Cry 64-Bit Game

Gaming May 10,2005 0

Award-winning single-core AMD Athlon(TM) 64 FX processor delivers maximum performance for 64-bit games Today AMD (NYSE:AMD) and Crytek announced that the highly anticipated 64-bit update to Crytek's and Ubisoft's award-winning PC game Far Cry(R), optimized for AMD Athlon(TM) 64 processor-based systems, is now available for download from http://www.amd.com/farcry. This new version of Far Cry was designed on AMD64 technology and features exclusive 64-bit enhancements that deliver a rich and immersive gaming experience.

"Gamers who play the 32-bit version of Far Cry will be ecstatic with the 64-bit version of Far Cry because AMD64 technology has transformed the 2004 best seller into an even more adrenaline-charged game," said Marty Seyer, corporate vice president and general manager, AMD Microprocessor Solutions Sector. "Die-hard gamers know the single-core AMD Athlon 64 FX processor delivers the world's best gaming performance."

PC users who smartly invested in AMD's premiere AMD Athlon 64 FX processor for gaming can now experience the next evolution in high-performance 64-bit computing. Because most games today are single-threaded, gamers' performance needs will be best served with the single-core AMD Athlon 64 FX processor.

With the winning combination of AMD64 processors, the recently released Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Pro x64 Edition operating system and 64-bit optimized Far Cry software, gamers will notice larger and more detailed areas to explore, exclusive 64-bit maps, longer view distances, unique and exciting game object textures and a 64-bit exclusive "barrel storage area" that demonstrates impressive, life-like object physics movement.

"AMD64 platforms are providing game developers with incredible game design, flexibility and freedom. There are specific enhancements we wanted to create, like view distances, texture details, map sizes and graphics that 32-bit platforms could not handle," said Cevat Yerli, chief executive officer and president at Crytek. "Working with AMD64 processors in a 64-bit world has given us valuable insights on how we can continue to leverage 64-bit processing in the future. What is most eye-opening about the 64-bit Far Cry is that we are only now beginning to tap into the potential power of the AMD64 platform."

With the new era of 64-bit programming, game developers now have a rich landscape of tools to develop games that a few years ago could never have been imagined.

The patches to enable 64-bit Far Cry are available today at http://www.amd.com/farcry. Current owners of the 32-bit version of Far Cry and Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition can download the patches and begin playing 64-bit Far Cry immediately.
