Toshiba Europe targets home movie makers with DVD-R/RW read/write DVD recorder

General Interest Sep 7,2002 0

Toshiba Europe GmbH Storage Device Division today announced the SD-R5002 DVD-R/RW, a high quality optical disk drive that comes complete with everything needed to create a comprehensive and effective home movie-making kit. The SD-R5002 is one of the fastest combination rewriteable DVD drives available. It can also read DVD-Video, DVD-ROM, DVD-R and DVD-RW as well as CDs. It can write at 16x speeds for CD-R, 10x for high-speed CD-RW and 2x for DVD-R, as well as being able to write to regular CD-RW and DVD-RW disks. "This is the finest combination read/write DVD drive available today and the result of months of extensive development and design work," said James Armour, European Engineering Expert, Toshiba Europe. "The SD-R5002 underscores Toshiba Europe's contention that only the DVD minus standard can deliver the compatibility levels that today's customers are demanding."

Toshiba Europe's DVD optical drives are developed using the DVD- standard, which enables greater performance characteristics to be incorporated into product designs. The SD-R5002 is Toshiba's first DVD-R/RW drive and has a half-height form factor and supports the ATAPI interface. The average random seek time is 120ms and 105ms for DVD and CD respectively and it also features a 2MB buffer capacity and buffer underrun protection.

Each SD-R5002 retail kits contains the drive itself, the Intervideo WinDVD, DVD Playback software, VOB Instant CD/DVD Writer software, Pinnacle Studio Version 8 SE video editing software, media accessories and all necessary cables and leads.

"The combination of Toshiba's quality design and engineering and the powerful DVD writing and editing software are what make this the most comprehensive and effective home movie-making kit on the market," said James Armour, European Engineering Expert. Prize draw All DVD-R/RW kits purchased before Christmas will include a free prize draw card to win a Toshiba SD220 E DVD player. The prize draw will take place on 31 January 2003, with 50 DVD players to be awarded throughout Europe.
