Gameplay uses SafeCast for secure delivery and copy protection of online distributed games

Gameplay uses SafeCast for secure delivery and copy protection of online distributed games

General Interest Sep 1,2000 0

"...Macrovision UK announced today that they will be joining forces with Gameplay to provide online gamers and online purchasers of games effective secure delivery and copy protection across Europe. Gameplay will be using Macrovision's SafeCast technology for both secure online delivery, and persistent copy protection of downloaded PC-based games as part of its pioneering new service, instant gameplay.

Gameplay has also chosen to employ Macrovision's credit card fraud checking and clearing provided by the Macrovision Payment Bureau for all related download transactions. SafeCast was chosen by gameplay because of its inbuilt robust security features, and exceptional compatibility testing with real customers.

Tim Heath, Director -- Multimedia Software Copy Protection Europe, said: ``We are delighted to be working with gameplay, a pioneering force in this rapidly evolving new area of games distribution. Macrovision has recognised that new technology is required to support this distribution channel and developed SafeCast specifically to take advantage of the many online marketing and data capture opportunities. This, combined with our expertise in security, gives us a set of technologies to help both retailers and publishers of digital media to maximize the opportunities in their markets. The world will inevitably move to on-line distribution, once massive bandwidth to the home is widely available. However, until that happens, delivery via CD-Rom or DVD-Rom, with high security unlocking Internet technology is the fastest way to deliver massively rich content in a cost effective manner to a customer.''.."
