DVD FLLC Initiates Licensing For DVD-Download and DVD-RW for DL Formats

DVD FLLC Initiates Licensing For DVD-Download and DVD-RW for DL Formats

Optical Storage Jul 27,2007 0

The DVD Format/Logo Licensing Corporation has made available the essential licensing procedures and information to hardware manufacturers that need to implement the DVD-Download for CSS Managed Recording and DVD-RW for DL formats in their products. The DVD Forum has developed new DVD Specifications "DVD Download Disc for CSS Managed Recording" (DVD-Download), which specify a write-once media to record CSS encrypted DVD-Video contents via download. The DVD-Download disc employs 2x wobble signal and CSS applicable Lead-in area, which generally differs from the DVD-R for General disc.

Since the DVD-Download disc is a derivative of the DVD-R for General disc, the DVD Forum has decided to define the DVD-Download Specifications as an Optional Specification of the DVD-R for General Specifications initially.

The DVD Format/Logo Licensing Corporation has established the Format/Logo License for DVD-Download independent of the License for DVD-R for General.

License of DVD-Download for CSS Managed Recording Format will be available as from August 1, 2007. Manufacturers of DVD-Download Discs (blank discs) and DVD-Download Drives (writable drives for professional use or home use) should contact DVD FLLC to execute the applicable License for manufacturing DVD-Download Discs and/or DVD-Download Drives. The License for DVD-Download Recorder products is currently not available.

Regarding the licensing for DVD-RW for Dual Layer, manufacturers are urged to contact DVD FLLC.
