Hi people, i have finally get my 812S (i feel good now)

so i will upgrade my frimware to 832S but on codeguy web site there are 3 version->
• VS01 (stock and 812S@832S)
• VS03 (stock and 812S@832S)
• Patched VS01 - 812S@832S, burn-adjust (release 2)
what is the best ?

I'm about to buy a new drive. Am I better off getting the 832S or getting the cheaper 831S and flashing it?

Well, so far it's 100%, but we also have a very small sample set. So it's hard to say exactly what the success rate would be. I thought you said that you didn't want to use hacked firmwares?

I currently see 2 firmware releases for 832S on the page:

• VS01 (stock and 812S@832S)
• VS03 (stock and 812S@832S)

And I dont see any text file in either version explaining what the differences are. Could someone explain the differences? TIA.

The difference is that one is VS01 (old firmware) and the other is VS03 (newer firmware).

LiteOn's official changelog for VS01->VS03 is "match more media", but VS03 seems to also have fixed a few of the bugs that VS01 had.

Yes. LiteOn drives can be made region-free very easily. For instructions for how, refer to this site: http://dhc014.rpc1.org/

ok, now for my 812S i have downloaded the VS04

but inside this rar file there 2 files..

what the one i must start ?

832S.VS04.stock.exe

832S.VS04.patched-812S@832S.exe

I have looked into these liteon sohw812s drives and on the box it says that they are capable of single/dual layer(PTP,OTP). Im not sure what the stuff in brackets is, but doesnt this mean that it can already (by default) burn dula layer DVDs?? If so, then why bother flashing at all?

My other question is what requirements on the IDE system do you need to burn at 4X. Im running ATA100, 5400rpm and I can only squeese 2X out of the machine thats running at 50% processor power. Anyone else got a similar problem?

I have enabled DMA on all drives, so that cant be the problem. I have also different IDE channels for the HDD and DVD-R and am using 80pin. NFI? The box says that p3-800 is recommended and I far exceed that...
