Kingwin is one of those companies that many enthusiasts often overlook. The name has not previously been associated with higher quality and performance hardware, but lately they have really stood out with their upper-end SLI certified PSUs, high-tech CPU coolers and very attractive HDD enclosures.

Kingwin has recently decided to join the ranks of other companies which have branched their product line into the power supply unit industry. More know for their very effective HDT Heatpipe Direct Touch coolers, Kingwin is also insistent that their PSU line be just as beneficial to the hardware enthusiast. Overclockers and gamers will most likely enjoy the impressive nickel-finished appearance, while system builders and casual users will appreciate the quality build into this power supply. Benchmark Review load tests the Kingwin Mach 1 ABT-800MA1S 800W Modular PSU for AC power ripple and DC voltage regulation.

The enclosure of interest for this review is from Kingwin, a manufacturer of computer components that has been in business since 1992. The first look at their Z1-35EU-BK USB 2.0 and eSATA Hard Drive Enclosure confirms that it definitely earns some style points. Analyzing the speed and reliability will take a bit more effort, but hopefully the sporty appearance is an indication of performance.

But, like many other "base" products... take the ATX computer case as a good example, there are so many different creative spins being implemented that it keeps things fresh. Today we will be taking a look at the latest external 3.5" hard drive enclosure from Kingwin in the Z1 Series 3.5" External Hard Drive Enclosure.

The Kingwin KF-4000-BK 4-Bay Hot Swap SATA Drive Rack supports up to four drives in the space of just three drive bays. Enclosures like this are not only useful in servers, but as the storage needs of home users increase, they provide a convenient way to keep up and up-to-date.

The Kingwin Revolution RVT-9225 Heatpipe Direct Touch CPU Cooler looks to capitalize on a new idea in the well proven method of cooling processors with heatpipe technology. By allowing the copper heatpipes to come in direct contact with the top of the processor, one interface has been eliminated and the thermal transfer can potentially be more efficient.

Overall these Kingwin Z1 hard drive enclosures are of good quality and the kit includes everything you need to get up and running other than the hard drive itself. The ability to use wither USB 2.0 or e-SATA is a nice option if you're switching between maybe a main rig with e-SATA and an older rig with only USB ports.

Kingwin has a solid performer in the Z1. Ease of use, good looks, and choice of colors adds up to a winning combination. I had no problems installing a drive, and it was immediately recognized by Windows. Driverless installation makes things easy (except for you Windows 98 users??.c'mon, upgrade to XP at least, you luddites!).

The idea of exposed heatpipes makes sense. Besides the transferal of heat between the heatsink and heatpipes, the heatsink itself can be made of aluminum? allowing lower manufacturing cost, and less weight. We'll see just how well this new idea works.

In true PC Apex fashion, I've voided the warranty to give you a good look at the internals. The heatsinks are not as large as others I've seen, but they are heavy duty. The soldered connections were done very solid with no visual defects noted. The fans are connected via removable connectors rather than soldered directly to the PCB which is nice for those who would like to use this power supply in a custom PC but change the fans for a different color scheme. Build quality was superb and all components were positioned well for optimum cooling.

Kingwin, aka KWI Technology Inc, has been around since 1992, which makes them one of the oldest aftermarket hardware companies in the industry. They started out making CPU coolers and external HDD racks, and now are into liquid cooling, cases, high performance air cooling, power supplies and some pretty innovative storage solutions. They pioneered the use of aluminum in external storage enclosures, which led the way for its use in cases.

Kingwin has a very solid performer here. Modular cabling, near silent running, and solid voltages all make for a winning combination. I liked the attention to detail, which is rare in the PSU market at this price point. The finish is flawless, the modular cabling is solid, without that sloppy feeling plastic connectors can give.

Who here hasn't wanted a water cooled CPU, but was too worried about leaks or pump failures ruining their systems? Well, I know that back in the day I wanted such a setup, but cost and lack of experience held me back. Fast forward to today, and we now have a simple, self-contained, compact, water-cooled cooler from Kingwin that attaches directly to the processor. The KWI Gladiator Hybrid Liquid Cooler uses air and water to cool a set of heatpipes that attach to a copper plate. Once again, this is done in a small, all-in-one, compact package.

When it comes to choosing a PSU there are many manufacturers to choose from, who all claim to have the ideal power solution for your high powered system. Post people won't bother searching around and will go for a tried and tested brand or the most well known one. Today I have with me a PSU from Kingwin who might not be the biggest and baddest company out they are trying to make a big splash with their latest range of PSUs aimed at gamers and enthusiasts alike. Let's see how their 800w Mach1 fares.

Kingwin. Would you buy a Kingwin power supply? For that matter, would you buy anything from Kingwin? In the PC component industry, a lesser known manufacturer has to seriously outperform the current market leaders. Hopefully this modular, LED equipped and 520W packing power supply does just that.
