Alright I am having some major problems with my drive and I can't seem to find anyone else who is having these problems, but here they are. First off I am using Windows XP SP2 with an Athlon 2500+ and an Abit NF7 motherboard (dunno if this matters) I received my NEC 3500A today and hurried and installed it, set as master on IDE channel 2. Booted up my computer it recognizes new hardware, but is unable to find drivers for it also lists the drive as merely a CD drive. I figure fine, I'll just search NEC"s site for the drivers, but no dice the only thing I can find is a firmware update that will update my firmware from it's current version(2.16) to 2.18. I put this off because I don't really see how it can help me, but finally I really want it to work so I decide to update so that it might hopefully fix it so it is recognized as a DVD-RW drive rather than a CD-ROM. I follow the directions listed on NEC's site to the letter boot my computer back up and everything looks like it went smoothly, but now when I go into my computer there is no CD-Rom drive nor any other sort of drive (other than a FLOPPY drive which I have none on my computer) so I don't know if it dchanged from being recognized as a cd-rom to being recognized as a floppy or whether the floppy was there before I'm not sure, but now even though the drive is listed in the device manager (as it was before) as a "_NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG" it is not listed in My Computer and it will no longer run CD's like it used to. At any rate I don't know what to do and have e-mailed NEC tech support and will call them tomorrow during business hours, but I was wondering if anyone had any idea as to what was going on and what I might do to fix it. Thanks in advance.
