There is no DL+ RW technology, only DL+R, and the 3500 writes to these discs.

I've just bought the NEC3500. The firmware (which I haven't changed) is 2.18 - I've only attempted to burn 2 DVD's so far......and have had the same problem both times using the latest version of Nero. The progress bar gets stuck on 24%!

Is this a common error? Does the burner think it is a CD in the drive? Am I missing something obvious?

Please help, thanks in advance.

Hi Guys
I just bought NEC 3500A and connect it to the external firewire box. Now I'm thinking to update it to 2.18 but I'm not sure that I can do it or not. Since on the NEC's support page said

quote:

The NEC firmware upgrade below should not be used with external USB / FireWire drives

So is it possible?
thanks in advance

you can connect it to an IDE, upgrade it and then put it back in the firmware box.

What about the dvd+rw 8x & dvd-rw 6x ?? (is it possible or not )
NEC is great but they could often release their firmware updates.

Have a LaCie Firewire DVD Burner. It is listed as a NEC 3500A(G) have 2.07 firmware. Burns up to 8x disks fine but just bought 50 16x Optodisk DVD-R and it won't even recognize them. LaCie Tech support seems useless. I am not that fluent on upgrading firmware but also don't want 50 coasters. These disks will burn in my Panasonic Standalone burner and work in my Pioneer A04 but write at 2X.

Sure could use a lot of help here.

Thanks

My Burner is a usb/firewire connected thru the firewire port. What files do I need and what is the procedure? I am a real newbie at this but it makes sense that the 2.07 firmware doesn't recognize the 16x Optodiscs. I would love to get this drive running at 16x like it's supposed to.
