@ RayLarson

Just download 2.28 from the first page and BinFlash also from first page of this thread, you can do it easily.

I have this firmware 2.28_QV3ME.bin writing speeds are speeded up.
But burning time are the same for example memorex -r 4x seems to be speeded up to 12x
& my burning time is exactly 10 min in 4x and 12x

Hey all I'm new here and was just reading about the nec 3500 firmware versions. I just bought a new pc with the nec ND-3500AG drive and wanted to have a look at my version. Nero infotool shows mine as v2.98. This is higher than any version I've saw here. Is this better? Has anybody saw this version yet.

Update I dumped the firmware and came up with this.
_NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG
2.98 29.10.2004 00

CD-R Version: 1.25g
CD-RW Version: 1.24
DVD-R Version: 1.40g
DVD-RW Version: 1.35d
DVD+R Version: 1.58G
DVD+RW Version: 1.37
DVD+R9 Version: 1.25G

Well..
quote:

Q: Can you explain the firmware numbering cause I am confused, 2.06=2.16=2.76?
A: NEC follows a pattern for each firmware revision: 2.xy, where:

X = Type (Retail, OEM, Rebadge)
Y = Revision number

Till today know patterns:

X = 0 (OEM)
X = 1 (Retail)
X = 2 (I-O Data)
X = 4 (Freecom)
X = 7 (TDK)
X = B (Ricoh)
X = F (MadDog)
----------------------
Y = 6
Y = 7
Y = 8
----------------------

Combining the above info for example we have

* 2.x6 (2.06/2.16/2.76/2.F6)
* 2.x7 (2.07/2.77)
* 2.x8 (2.F8/2.78) etc...

While the 2.x6 builds supposed to be the same, there is high possibility that due to writing strategy and released date differences, some of them are newer and hopefully better.

So your firmware isn't really higher version... I guess it's a variation of official 2.18. Can you send this firmware to me? I'll PM my email. I know of someone who collects Nec firmwares =)

HI all;

I have a question, but first I thought I'd list my stats, as I've seen a lot of people asking about flashing external.

Running NEC 3500 in External USB2.0/Firewire box
Successfully flashed it externally using Herrie's necflash_wingui with Quikee's 2.28_QV2MR_Extreme.bin on a (laptop) Dell Latitude D800 2.0GHz w/ 512MB RAM.
I have made a few coasters, but not too bad.

I am primarily using 4x media, but with Quikee's flash I can burn at 12x. I have found that other than my Riteks, the 4x disks will fail about 25% of the time at 12x. So I typically burn them at 8%, if I can remember. My question is other than going with Quikee's 2.18 or someone elses firmware that has slower speeds, is there a way to turn down the speed of my burner, whether it's a setting in Nero or another tool? I can't seem to find anything...

Updated 2/2/2005
- Added 2.FC for MadDog 16X

Emperor - Just thought you might want to relabel the MadDog 2.FC as beta since apparently from the thread on CDFreaks, it's an internal beta.
