@ls198567

Hallo, you can download the files from the first page of this thread.
The name is 6500boot.zip.
Copy the files on a bootable floppydisk.
Boot from this disk.
Execute 6500Boot.bat
Execute 6500Main.bat
The ND6500 is after flashing now reverse-Ata.
BUT: There is no way to go back to normal ata-mode.
The firmware on the disk is 4.21.
You should flash the 4.60, which is also downloadable from the first page.

I personally would NOW prefer the hardwaresolution (opening and make a contakt between two pins of the connector), because there are more firmware-versions for the normal-ata-mode as for reverse-ata-mode.

Greetings

Hardy

Hi. I have a problem with my ND 6500 drive.[:(]
I followed the instructions from this forum and I soldered the required pins in order to set the drive for cable select.
After that, I installed the drive on my toshiba laptop and I change the firmware to 2.23 version.
The problem occured when I copy CD's
The installation kit I burned seems to be corupted.
Then I use the original CD is working fine.
When I check the cd with nero scan disk, the CD is looking fine.
The DVD burning is OK
Do you think I have to re-flash the drive with the original firmware.
Try not to ask me that, because I lost the original bin file.
My drive is manufactured on November 2004.
Peace.
PS: Sorry for my terible english

Liggy has released a Bitsetting version of the 2.24 firmware:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.php?p=902111&postcount=187

It tis very new so it might cause troubles, and not fully tested! So dont go flashing unless you are sure about what you are doing.

Note: it has RPC1 and Fast versions of the firmware too in the archove.

Hi,

What are the advantages to upgrade my NEC ND-6450A (FirmWare 2.36) with the ND-6500A 2.23 firmware with Bitsettings?

Is it better the choose the official 4.60? Or maybe the new 2.24 with bitsettings...???

Thanks!!!

Hi,
I am new, I've read the whole thread, I'm going crazy! I have a Toshiba Satellite M30-103 laptop, I'v just bought a NEC ND-6500 and installed it onto my laptop. When I turn it on I get an error message 0203: Failure IDE #2, anyway I can click "Boot" and windows starts normally, with the 6500 working fine, it plays dvds! As far as I've seen, especially from the posts of Sensei, it might be due to the fact that my 6500 is set as slave and it should be set as master, but how can I be sure about this? If I go under device manager where can I read if it is master or slave?
Anyway I have flashed it with a patched 2.40 firmware which is also RPC-1 (that's why I bought the NEC), but I want to avoid that boot error, which really slows the boot sequence. I downloaded both 6500BOOT.BAT and 6500MAIN.BAT, so is there a way to tell NEC 6500 to be master (if this is the problem)? Can I use these files to do it? Sensei managed to do it, as far as I've read, but I do not have another laptop.. Is there another procedure? What I need is just my 6500 to be RPC-1..

Thanks for your help

Ciao from Italy

r3pl4y -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (3/11/2005 7:24:06 PM)

I found a partial answer by myself: using NeroTools I understood that my NEC 6500 is set as Secondary Slave with no DMA, while my previous drive mounted on my Toshiba laptop (a Matshita UJ-820s drive) was set as Secondary Master with DMA.

I think I am exactly in the same situation as sensei88, that's why I get the ide #2 error while most of the people here get the #1 error. Therefore I have to make my NEC master, since it is slave.

Is there a way I can do this without using another laptop?

Thanks again..

Ciao

Hi, I think I did a stupid action.
I soldered the 47 with 45 pins on my drive
After that I execute on the same computer the 6500boot.
After that, I received the same Ide 1 error.
I unsoldered the above mentioned pins hoping that the error will disapear.
Gues what, it didn't.
If I'll install the drive on Dell laptop, is there any chance to set the drive on reversed ATA to work with my toshiba laptop?
Also, how can I re install the original 2.22 firmware?

Using the latest firmware will enable higher writing speeds to certain media, use the NEC Dump to compare your 2.36 firmware with the one posted at the first page of this thread...The 4.xx firmware are for use with REVERSED ATA 6500A drives so, you shouldn't use them anyway. The new 2.24 with bitsetting might be a good solution, but i havent tested it to see if Bitsetting actually works[:)]

Hi all. Im having some real trouble here!

I got my NEC 6500A Laptop Drive today. It isn't recognized in the Bios of my Advent Lappy, but is in WinXP Pro (but on Secondary Slave as PIO Mode). I have the 2.40 Firmware.

I read about flashing the Bios, but i have no Floppy drive, and i can't boot from the CD Drive either (because it isn't recognized in bios!).

What are the steps i should take from here?

Thanks for any replies folks, much appreciated.

Loaderbull -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (3/17/2005 1:30:52 PM)

I sorted it!

Using the hardware trick a few pages previously. Didn't really want to attempt it being as i only recieved my Drive today. But it works a treat, now it is set as Secondary Master (not Slave) and in DMA Mode 2.

My Soldering Iron Bit was a little big, but using the corner i managed to Solder a blob on Pins 47 and 45.

Can now boot from Cd etc. It no longer skips during CD playback, so im all happy :0)

Thanks to Frenchnew and Chipster.

Hi Emperor,

Seems im using the 2.40 Firmware (i am assuming it's older than 2.23?) would you flash it?

It all does work ok as it is however.

Thanks

emperor -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (3/18/2005 6:43:46 AM)

if it works and you have no problem dont flash it, 2.24 is the newest one
