thanks!, read over freaks forum there is a newer 2.02c build that its even newer than the 2.23 update and can do bitsetting, but i don't have the binary, at least not yet[:)]

OK, I am going to make the PLUNGE with you guys help. Someone give me step by step instructions on what is needed and steps to take to update the firmware on my ND-6450A to make it a ND-6500A.

Holding my breath and awaiting the icy cold waters of instructions.

Thankyou for your answer.

Trouble is i am buring a dvd-r media not +R. I have read the past posts not only in this thread but many others and it seems to have something to do with +R as you mentioned, but i can't understand why it would affect me as i am using -R...?. As far as the latest 2.02 update the one in your link on page one is a dated version isn't it.?.I tried that earlier today and it still failed on burning. Is there somewhere i could get a more recent version..?. I saw your post about freaks forum, but i don't know where that is.

How did you install this into the modular bay and what did you do about the front bezel. I have a spare cd-rom drive for the modular bay which i can use or dismantel.

however, i would really like to use in the internal fixed bay which i know is Primary Slave? How would i get the Nec drive to work in the fixed bay?

Also, which Dell Bios firmware are you running?

I have just bought a Lacie Slim USB DVD/RW which came with a NEC ND-6500A drive. I would like to bitset it in order to make DVD+RW compatible with an old DVD-ROM so I am considering flashing with 223_liggy, but it seems that my actual firmware is not 2.23 but 2.24.
Do you think it is safe to flash it backwards? Can I always go back to my original firmware?
If you are interested in the firmware I have back up copy.

Emperor I one of the laptops owners that just received a NEC 6500A it's on the packing slip of the brand spanking new Inspiron 8600 mfgd in December of 2004. I don't need to flash a NEC 6100 in a previous I-8600 that I owned, today is the 20th of February I got some DVD for up to 8 X and for my new Pioneer 16x External burner I got a pack of 25 of the 16 X DVD at our new opened Circuit City loacated only 2.2 miles from where I live. They don't have any DL discs in yet but Wal-Marts do, I wanted to read them but the pace was full of shoppers and I couldn't get my wheelchair out their way fast enough so I left the store.

DVD-R media doesn't support bitsetting, you can also try 2.23 to see if that solves your problem
