Oracle -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (3/23/2005 6:49:09 AM)

It seems that there is a problem with this new release. Can you re-upload it please?
What are the differences between this version (dated 17.02.2005) and the previous 2.24 (dated 13.01.2005) ?

Thanx mate [:)]

The only thing changed is the write strategy DVD+RW from 1.31f to 1.32f.

didisoft -> RE: NEC 6500 official firmware overview 26/10/2004 Updated! (3/27/2005 12:41:43 PM)

I finally found the reason why all archive on my burned CD and DVD are corrupted.
The problem is a memory module with problems and life time guaranty.
I post this message because I don’t want anybody to have my problem anymore.
Thank you KINGMAX.

By the way, where I can buy a standard IDE adapter for my ND 6500 DVD writer?

magic144 -> NEC 6500 modded firmware (3/31/2005 1:14:07 PM)

bit of a noob question, but

in the downloadable firmware mods, e.g. 224bitset.zip, there's variants with names like fast and rpc1

does this mean that one ONLY has riplock removed and the other ONLY has rpc1 set
or does the rpc1 variant also include the riplock removal???

thanks for clearing this up if you know :-)

m

ps - where did the nice chart (from this forum) go which showed all the different versions of the various components of each firmware release?! - it made a lot more sense than the curious release version numbers like 2.24, 2.81, etc...

emperor -> RE: NEC 6500 modded firmware (3/31/2005 3:21:58 PM)

@magic144: yes that is correct, the RPC1 includes both RPC1 and riplock, so use this one...

The charts deleted cause it has not very easy to update, you can get NEC Dump anyway to compare the writing stategies, for sure 2.24 is the latest one...The dates also indicate which firmware is the latest one [;)]

Loaderbull -> RE: NEC 6500 modded firmware (4/1/2005 7:14:34 AM)

Hey all,

I am currently using the Hardware Modded ND6500A, with 2.24 Firmware. I have noiced that i can 'un-do' my hardware Mod, and use the 4.xx Firmwares...?

I would prefer to use just a Firmware rather than have it Soldered inside. Bearing in mind that when it was not hardware modded i couldn't boot from CD at all. Can i remove the Mod, flash it to 4.xx Firmware and it be a Secondary Master (reverse ATA). It does all work fine but as said, would like to just have it flashed, not modded. Can i use the BIN Flash and flash it to 4.xx?

Thanks folks

emperor -> RE: NEC 6500 modded firmware (4/1/2005 9:57:12 AM)

Loaderbull, if your drive works just fine as it is now, with 2.24, why switch back to 4.24?

beASt -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (4/1/2005 12:03:38 PM)

hi guys,

i have a question (loaderbull has in some way the same question).

can i do the hardware mod to the drive and, if i unsolder the pins, will it be working normal after doing this ?

after doing the firmware flash to negated cable select, i cant go back to normal cable select, right?

magic144 -> RE: NEC 6500 modded firmware (4/1/2005 1:01:17 PM)

hi emporer

I tried the 2.24 mod
it works OK, but I notice I cannot play RCE discs thru PowerDVD v6
even with DVDGenie

any thoughts/ideas?
anyone else had issues with RCE?

I'm gonna revert to one of the dangerous bros versions and see if that works
will let you know

Loaderbull -> RE: NEC 6500 modded firmware (4/2/2005 9:01:56 AM)

Emperor, I don't like the idea of having to solder (yes i have already done it, but can reverse it with 4.xx) my newly purchased drive. As it is, i am leaving it alone. It seems to me that there are a lot of issues with the firmware at present (regarding NEC..). The default Firmware that my drive came with was 2.40, that set my drive to Secondary Slave using PIO Mode, which took an age to burn a 2GB Disc... NEC's site is a little dissapointing on the Firmware side, i haven't spotted any for my drive when i was very frustrated at how my drive performed.

I thought all was lost untill i stumbled across this site, i was (understandably) reluctant that after a day, i was going to attempt a 'Hardware' Mod. Yes it worked, but in all honesty i shouldn't have to do that! But now i find that Firmware 4.xx corrects this ATA issue. Why isn't this displayed on NEC's Website? Forgive me if it is, but at the time i couldn't find anything, just a Model description...

Thanks to this website though, i have a fully working DVD/RW i payed £80 for, but it didn't come as expected out of the box.

Keep up the good work.

emperor -> RE: NEC 6500 modded firmware (4/3/2005 5:30:01 AM)

since your drive came with 2.40 firmware you cannot use the 4.xx series, since its for reversed ATA drives

magic144 -> RE: NEC 6500 modded firmware (4/3/2005 4:17:29 PM)

ok, seems the dangerous bros 2.23 release still failed the powerdvd rce test, even with dvdgenie

so I eventually poked around and got to try zoomplayer
it works just fine with the rce disc (and with f/w rel 2.24) - I can even point it to use the powerdvd filters - minus points for that cyberlink s/w! damn the DVD industry with their attempts at control!!

if I bought I DVD, I expect to be able to watch it!
