No drivers are available or required to enable your drive to read CD's or DVD's however DVD software is required to enable playback of a DVD Video
The most likely cause of your problem will be down to incorrectly installed CD/DVD burning software & possibly a clash between two incompatible softwares.
Uninstall all your burning apps and reinstall the one you intend to use & if this does not cure the problem a clean install of your OS.

gba -> Been out of loop... Any new firmware w/ speed hack enabling 8X burns with RITEKG04?? (1/3/2005 12:28:51 PM)

I have not been able to keep up lately, still using 3500W2C8 "NEC ND-3500A 2.C8 (from TDK DVDRW1616N) RPC1 and Rip Speed Firmware" which was revised on Nov. 18. I was wondering... has anyone come up with a speed hack that will enable 8X burns with RITEKG04 DVD-R?? I'm sitting on a bunch of this media.

Thanks!

I bought 100 pc. of TYG02 today. The reason for this was that NecDump reported the V3B3R2 to be able to burn at 16x on TYG02 media. My discs are labled "Hyundai" and other people seems to have been able to burn at atleast 12x (according to www.nierle.de).

My problem is, everytime i burn a dvd, and do the verify afterwards, I encounter serious read errors and verify stops. This happens on discs burnt at both 12x and 16x with the TYG02 media ID.

Anyone got any suggestions?
thnx in advance

My suggestion is:

I bought a Pioneer A07 without DL and I burn
DVD-R at 1X
DVD+R at 2,4X
and anyway never faster than 4X
I do the same on my NEC 3500 where the slowest writing speed is still 2,4X with (only!) 4X certified DVD+R's
I burn video on DVD+R or DVD-R
but important data on DVD-RAM

and I am very happy . . .

atrox probably your media is FAKE, i mean TY doesn't sell their ID or media to any other retailer or manufacturer, NEC can burn them at 12X but as you saw the produced discs are not good, its not a fault of NEC its the media!

atrox -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview 22/12/2004 Updated! (1/6/2005 3:21:02 PM)

Fake was my guess too. Just wanted it confirmed. NEVER, and i mean NEVER buy media @ www.nierle.com !!

Hello atrox
I just suggest that if you keep these fake TYG02 and you can use sometimes a PX-716A then you burn a least 3 in a row with Autostartegy on and see what happens, maybe a good surprise ?

Help!

I just received a ND-3500AG from NewEgg. According to Nero's software, it can only read pressed DVD's at about 6.2x max, and Nero reports the maximum CD burn speed is 32x, and I have 48x media. The NEC CD-RW drive recognizes and burns at 48x, and this 3500AG should as well, at least 40x.

Is this normal, or am I missing something?

I've tried 2 different firmwares, 2.28, and 218btrpc1. NEC firmware only reads at a 3.8x max on pressed DVD's, the 218btrpc1 allows the 6.2x max.

I don't have any DVD-R or any DVD media yet to try, but I'm thinking the read speeds should be much higher, and the burner speed should definitely be higher.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Nathan

Quikee -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview 22/12/2004 Updated! (1/6/2005 10:22:14 PM)

6.2x ripping speed is about right... Nec ripps DL disc with max 7x.... About CD writing.. Nec states that the drive can burn at 48x... and it can... but not on all disc... only a few are supported at that speed... so you will have to live with it. However 32x isn't that bad is it ? the difference is very small... do you really think that a few seconds more really matters ? Well however.. the burn quality at 32x is better than at 48x with this drive anyway. Writing DVD disc should work just fine... just remember to buy decent DVD disc for example Verbatim... and not the first junk that gets in your hand.

konoli -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview 22/12/2004 Updated! (1/8/2005 4:01:51 AM)

I received some Onidtech DVD -Rs with the white tops for xmas. When I insert these in my 3500 2 things happen, windows media player opens to play the file and they show as an audio cd in the drive.
I have the NEC 218 firmware installed.
Is there another firmware that will recognize this type of DVD -R ?
Any help is appreciated. [:)]

New Member - thanks for all of the valuable info.

I am using my ND3500a in a USB enclosure.
Are there any problems using BinFlash to update the firmware??
Any special precautions??
Why does the NEC website warn against doing this?

Thanks
