I just upgraded to 2.18 and it helped with some burn issues I had... should I stick with it or there are good enough reasons to go back to older ones?

Also, why this is released for Europe and not for US/Canada?

Why should you go back ?

Why should you go back ?

Well, I saw a few posts that people had worse results with 2.18 and went back... so wasn't sure if there's a problem with it. Also, the fact that this was not offered in US... made me think why?

Quikee -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview 30/11/2004 Updated! (12/10/2004 11:03:57 PM)

2.18 is superior to all older firmwares... Don't know why people went back.. =)

* Updated 22/12/2004
- Added 2.48 for Freecom DVD+/-RW16B9

Below is a comparison, in short 2.48=2.18=2.28=2.79 in terms or writing strategies, no bitsetting for 2.48, so its suggested to use 2.28[8D]

Ehm, excuse me emperor .

In the post where you explain all the various Firmware for the NEC 3500 devices I see this :

228.bin (Official Firmware Update from I-O DATA DVR-ABN16W drive, Supports DVD+R/+R9 DVD-ROM Bitsetting,Supports Ritek/Ricoh, Philips/CMC Magnetics DL)

I've flashed this Firmware on my TDK 1616n , but I'm not able to changing Bitsetting parameters for DVD+R

Why?

Thanks

HayArms are you sure? which software used?

akius -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview 14/10/2004 Updated! (12/24/2004 2:27:14 PM)

What exactly does the Booktype-settings do? Why would I want to change them and so on?

/ aki

Ps: If the answer is obvious, sorry for wasting your time. :)

Status: offline I just cant understand this... I updated my firmware to 2C8SE and now my nero say max speed is 6x. I thought it was Nero problem and installed version 6.6. 6x Max again! Try to change the firmware (to 2F8) and 6x again... Can anyone have the solution??? (Emperor required )

Mate i have also the nec3500ag with v2.18
About the nero speed issue don't worry.I had the same issue. When you install the nero after insert a dvd-movie on the nec and open the cd/dvd nero speed tool.
Make the test and after it will unlock the speed of your recorder mate!!
I did it and it works.
Also i have a taiyo yuden 1-8x and it records at 12x.
See ya mate!!!

plimper i think its just a software glitch, if you insert a DVD media you will see the proper recording speeds

I found some good info, nevermind my last question.

Is there anyway to burn 8x dvd-rs in more than that? I cant chose anything faster than 8x with my 3500A, in any of my dvd-r-software (alcohol, nero, stomp, sonic recordmax).

Tad2much -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview 17/10/2004 Updated! (12/29/2004 11:44:46 PM)

Alright I am having some major problems with my drive and I can't seem to find anyone else who is having these problems, but here they are.

First off I am using Windows XP SP2 with an Athlon 2500+ and an Abit NF7 motherboard (dunno if this matters)

I received my NEC 3500A today and hurried and installed it, set as master on IDE channel 2.

Booted up my computer it recognizes new hardware, but is unable to find drivers for it also lists the drive as merely a CD drive. I figure fine, I'll just search NEC"s site for the drivers, but no dice the only thing I can find is a firmware update that will update my firmware from it's current version(2.16) to 2.18. I put this off because I don't really see how it can help me, but finally I really want it to work so I decide to update so that it might hopefully fix it so it is recognized as a DVD-RW drive rather than a CD-ROM.

I follow the directions listed on NEC's site to the letter boot my computer back up and everything looks like it went smoothly, but now when I go into my computer there is no CD-Rom drive nor any other sort of drive (other than a FLOPPY drive which I have none on my computer) so I don't know if it dchanged from being recognized as a cd-rom to being recognized as a floppy or whether the floppy was there before I'm not sure, but now even though the drive is listed in the device manager (as it was before) as a "_NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG" it is not listed in My Computer and it will no longer run CD's like it used to. At any rate I don't know what to do and have e-mailed NEC tech support and will call them tomorrow during business hours, but I was wondering if anyone had any idea as to what was going on and what I might do to fix it.

Thanks in advance.

try to update your motherboard drivers and also use Nero to burn media
