hi guys,

I updated my drive with the latest firmware version 2.19, it originally came with ver. 2.18 ( got it week ago), now after reflashing, it no longer reads the correct capacity of the Blank DVD, whatever brand it is :

[image]http://img239.echo.cx/img239/484/117um.jpg[/image]

As you can see, the blank capacity is 4.38 GB not 4.7 GB, it also failed to burn this blank DVD, i tried going back to ver.2.18 but the problem still exist, any help will be much appreciated, thanks

I have a similar problem and the jumbers was in CS, when I set them to Master or Slave, according to your configuration then it was ok. Also I have seen something relevant when I had a drive on a controller.

Flash -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview (5/9/2005 6:28:07 AM)

DVDs hold 4.707 billion bytes of data, which IS NOT 4.7GB (gigabytes).

A billion is 1,000 cubed, whereas a gigabyte is 1,024 bytes cubed (1,073,741,824 bytes).

So, 4.707 billion bytes divided by 1 GB (4,707,000,000 / 1,073,741,824 = 4.383735358715057373046875) which is slightly over 4.38GB capacity on a DVD-5.

Thank you Flash, although i was sure that i saw the size = 4.7GB in nero tools before the firmware flashing, may be i was wrong, i am new to the whole DVD burning stuff after all

DreXP -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview (5/26/2005 6:24:03 PM)

Hey, I have the NEC 3500A and am currently using the 2.C8 Firmware. I would just like to know if this is the latest and greatest one or if I should download another one. I want the best all around firmware available for this burner. Also, I want to purchase Ridata 4.7GB 16X DVD+R blanks but some of the feedback on this item suggests that the only way users of the 3500A can burn at 16x is with the latest firmware, posted as the 2.19. Additionally, I'm told that you can only upgrade to the 2.19 firmware if you are currently using the 2.16, 2.17, or 2.18. Help?

emperor -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview (5/29/2005 7:23:26 AM)

2.19 is the latest official firmware, you can go to any firmware you want with the Binflash software, check the first page of this thread

hi to all,
i'm new to this tread but quite experianced with computer junk. i see that 2.19 is the latest NEC release, any news on modified version of it with +R SL bitsetting support? [8|]

tqhoang -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview (6/12/2005 10:55:17 PM)

You should visit ScorpioSoft's NEC archive pages:  http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/index.html

He's got a nice collection of official and un-official firmwares there.  If you just want bitsetting and possibly region-free firmware for you NEC 3500, then you should probably try the Mad Dog v2.FD with the namestring changed to the NEC 3500:  http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/3500/3500_2.FD_NS+RPC+RL.rar

If you're interested in the same thing + media speed hacks, then you should visit CDFreaks and checkout their thread on 3500 firmwares by Liggy & Dee.

kubus -> 2.R8 (6/14/2005 5:24:37 PM)

emperor -> RE: 2.R8 (6/16/2005 8:05:02 AM)

Kubus we cannot understand what you are saying [:)], 2.R8 is not available yet[:)]
