On the official download page of Mad Dog:
http://www.maddogmultimedia.com/support/drivers.asp

only the 2.FD self-extracting firmware is available
on top of older versions such as: 2.F9 and 2.FA which I have used in the past

Is there any reason why they took away the 2.FC version thant I am using at the moment on my NEC 3500 retail drive ?
Is it recommended for me to upgrade to 2.FD ?

Does this new 2.FD version as usual only improve the writing strategies and add more media ?

I've FW Nec-3500. Is there a way to flash it?

Use Binflash and any firmware as posted at the first page [;)]

I have a NEC DVD RW ND-3500 AG (Futitsu-Siemens PC).
Nero InfoTool shows firmware version 2.88

Which is the best firmware for my drive?
I'm a little bit confused about the diff. firmwares.

Thanx

@HayArms, i think that the 2.Cx series won't come back in life, TDK Signapore also seems to supply the 2.7A series

That's a pity [:(]

And I imagine that there's no way to set Booktype (temporary or permanent) for DVD+R with 2.7A :(

Bye

probably yes, no booktype option

Tabajara -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview (4/24/2005 2:20:42 PM)

guys, is there a way to hack a NEC3500 writer into a NEC3520 one?

emperor -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview (4/24/2005 3:24:26 PM)

no doesn't work, already tried it!

Too bad! [8|]

Have they a different hardware? Did someone compared the 3500 and 3520 bioses to see if enhancements to the 3520, such as DVD error analisys capability, can be adapted to the 3500?

emperor -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview (4/28/2005 7:28:35 PM)

i have tried and almost make the 3500 drive useless, but we recovered it...

(I hope this is the proper forum)
I have a 3500AG with the 2.19 firmware. I just gout a bunch of new CDR media (admittedly really cheep) media. They say on the package 1x-52x, but the drive only allows 8x & 16x. I would like to know two things:

1 – How does it come up with this … it cant possibly have a table for every brand and type of media? (a link to another thread/doc would be acceptable.)

2 – I would like to try higher speeds for this specific media and see what results I get, but if I flash a firmware that allows any speed for any media, I will obviously loose the feature to auto-detect proper burn speeds for other media. Is there any way for me to hack the firmware myself to allow higher speeds just for this media? (I have a lot of computer and programming skills … just never done anything with firmware before.) Alternately, is there a firmware that would allow me to turn the write speed limits on and off without re-flashing every time?

Thanks to all the firmware Gurus in advance.

Quikee -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview (5/2/2005 3:43:40 PM)

It has a table of ATIP and Lead-In information for identifiying CD-R discs. =)
There is no firmware that will allow any speed for any media.. it's imposible to make one for Nec... also Nec firmware hacking is not a piece of cake and you have to know quite a bit about the firmware before trying anything.

I would really like to understand all this better ... particulatrly how the drive identifies CDR media, and what aspects of writing that can affect. Any suggestions of where I can go for such information? (I have extensive computer experience, but this is a new area for me.)
