They turned out to be identical but better to be on the safe side anyway. [:)]

Hello !

Has anybody done DVD+R DL burns with this 2.FC stock firmware from Mad Dog on
a Verbatim "MKM-001"
or "Ritek-D01" medias and scanned them ?

Does the "Ritek-D01" MID code burn at 2,4X or 4X with the 2.FC stock firmware ?

Quikee -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview 22/12/2004 Updated! (2/24/2005 9:51:59 AM)

2.4x

are there some hacked firmware that is recomended and safe....???

I wish rip locked remowed bittseting, and best CD write speeds ...

Which is the best and SAFE hacked firmware for NEC 3500 A

There is lots of hacked firmware and versions on the net, and I just dond know what to use??

Erik -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview (3/7/2005 8:17:14 AM)

Hello,

I have a NEC 3500AG inside a Lacie Firewire/USB2 enclosure, and I have had the following problems with it :

- When ripping with DVD Decrypter using Firewire, the ripping speed rises up to 5 then starts to drop until zero. Then nothing happens until I turn off the NEC from the power button on the Lacie box. When I turn it on again, ripping restarts from where it stopped. Then it does this all the time, as soon as the speed is more than 5.
- When ripping with the same DVD Decrypter but using USB2 this time, there is no problem. Is it not weird ?

- Now when burning, if I use Firewire, I don't seem to have problems, at least not yet. But recently I have started to burn using USB2 (because I also use USB2 for ripping now) and very often I have coasters ! I use Traxdata x8 DVD-R (Ritek G05) and I burn at 2x using DVD Decrypter (using Nero, I made coasters as well). The failure is always during writing the Leadin, and the error is always "semaphore timeout" ... I have tried to change the I/O interface setting in Decrypter to use ElbyCDIO instead of SPTI, but I also got coaster with a different error, something like "could not write incompatible format ...".

It's really annoying, it seems like I will have to shift connections all the time : usb to rip, firewire to burn !
The firmware in the Lacie is 2.07. It's a bit old isn't it ? Do you think that those problems could be related to the firmware version of the NEC, or is it a enclosure box (lacie) problem and firmware upgrade will not do anything ?

In the case the problems could be solved by firmware upgrade, if I have understood well, I could use Binflash and one of the firmware bin file to upgrade even through Firewire or USB2 ?

Thankx for your help.

emperor -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview (3/8/2005 7:32:51 AM)

@grizli: To flash your drive with the bin file use binflash (http://binflash.cdfreaks.com) also the NECDump can be used to open a BIN firmware and see the supported media list, use it to see what i mean!

@Erik: you can try installing the drive as internal and flash with the latest available firmware of 2.28 (which also supports bitsetting). As for your problems, maybe its the external box problems, i assume when using the firewire all went ok?

Erik -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview (3/9/2005 7:54:55 AM)

Thankx Emperor for your reply.

I downloaded this firmware : 218btrpc1.rar
and managed to upload it to the Lacie/NEC burner using Binflash, and connecting the enclosure through USB2.
I must admit I was very nervous ...

I did not notice any change after the upgrade :
- ripping through Firewire, the speed still drops to zero after a while
- ripping speed is not faster, but it was already ok before (x5 approximatively)
- for the burning failures, can't tell yet as I burnt only one DVD after the upgrade, and before the failures were not systematic ...

emperor -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview (3/9/2005 4:02:21 PM)

Its very strange that the ripping speed is so slow, maybe its problem with specific media?

alfa 156 -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview (3/14/2005 1:18:44 PM)

do you think we should expect another official firmware update from NEC or that was all that NEC will offer for the 3500?

emperor -> RE: NEC 3500 and OEM official firmware overview (3/14/2005 4:53:27 PM)

Yes a new official firmware will come supporting PI/PIF
