ReggieUK -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/26/2002 1:47:13 AM)

Saso: That is the same Manufacturer ID as I had on 2 discs, one DataSafe 2x speed and a plain white label 2x disc, both failed straight after the lead in stage, both with the same power calibration error. So, it would be useful if you could tell us some more details of who the disc was made by (Not TDK!!).

I'm a bit surprised that as some of you are saying that cheaper bulk media now works, yet this same MFR. ID (TDKG002.) has given the same error after a firmware update, which tends to suggest that while some media is more compatible with the drive now, the TDK clones are not! Which seems to hold true with what pioneer were saying, which was to avoid TDK and Verbatim clones.

saso -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/26/2002 1:58:42 AM)

It is Media sold as DIGIT.

What I am not realy sure is, if the media is now corupted or not.. also for use in other DVR and I also have no chance to check it, by some reports this same media is supposed to work in A03-04,......

Whatever, on the other forum a heavy debate is going on about TDK "fake clones" soo here is the link.(see down)

Maybe someone could post Brandnames(workable) under which the media is sold instead the media produce which seems in this case is not the relevant one.(Evrope available :=) )

If someone is interested here is the link about that discussion i mentioned

p.s.This whole thing starts to be a bit anoying[:(!]

Hrm..

just burned 4 copies on Bulkpaq Greentop Gen 4, which has the TDKG02 Stamper. 2Xbox games, 1 data and 1 video. Burned in Recordnow Max, all burned 100% and verified without errors. The xbox games played fine in the xbox, the video played fine in my Pioneer DV340 Settop player and the datadisc was fully readable by both my Pioneer DVD-117 and by the 105. With Fw 1.00 this discs would all had been crawling with read errors. Its interesting to see some have Power calibration errors.. as i didnt get any.

Sincerely // Mike

Hello MT, I haven't done the firmware update yet, so can't confirm whether the TDKG002's still fail in my drive, in fact, I'm not too sure whether I have any left, but I can get a couple more to test.

I didn't realise there was a firmware update until today :)

ReggieUK -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/26/2002 4:21:26 AM)

hmmmmn, oddly, I do have some TDKG002's they are 'Choice' branded Gen 3 2x speed, these were recommended by pioneer but I have had some verification errors with them, but some have also burnt fine and are readable in the Xbox and on my other PC. I'm going to upgrade the firmware in a mo and do a 4GB burn and see how I get on.

MT_MEDIA -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/26/2002 10:13:44 PM)

The reason why alot of Princo manufactured medias uses the TDK G02 MF ID is because with this ID, the meda woul be accepted to be burned at 2X on the A03 and A04 units, Princo had no interest in paying royality money to Pioneer just to have their medias certified for 2X, thats why they faked the MFR ID instead. The issue is not so much "Beware! you are using fake TDK medias", this "phenomena" has been known to the industry for a long time, and was just a political counter strategic move from Princo. However, the method could ofcourse be questioned. The problem when Pioneer decided to "ban" this media was that alot of brands, like Bulkpaq, Choice, Datawrite/Datasafe, Eproformance etc.. hav had their medias manufactyred in Princos facilities, they did not personally know that Princo used this fake MF ID. There is alot, yes ALOT of different branded medias on sale in Europe with this stamper.

Thank you Mike for clearing this issue to us, but at the end of ends it would be nice if people would post the media wich doesn t work(sales name ) and media which work, to avoid unnecesary costs buying media which someone else already found unusuable.[B)]

Hey all.. Well, its about time we have a page dedicated to media types for the A05 so me and a friend Warren created one.. Please go and post your media experiences with what has worked and what speeds , what hasnt etc through our interface. The URL is: http://a05.halifrag.com . Go check it out. Maybe we can finally get a definitive answer and whats supported and what isnt once and for all.

ReggieUK -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/27/2002 7:36:07 PM)

OK, so I upgraded the firmware to 1.21 and the 'Choice' branded media that I have both fail to verify 90% of the time, and those that do burn and verify won't work in the devices that they are intended for (Xbox, PC). These discs are the infamous TDKG02 ID's, one has a blue label the other has a white printed label, both are choice 2x Gen3 discs.

I thought that I would see if they would at least burn at 1x but this time I had a power calibration error. It seems that this firmware has regressed as far as the TDKG02's are concerned, Oh well, back to bigpockets again to see if they will replace these discs for me, as I specifically asked for discs that work faithfully at 2x on the A05!!

Luckily I have some 'aqua' Bulkpaq 2x Gen4's that are working great :)

MT_MEDIA -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/27/2002 8:48:42 PM)

Slightly interesting... Because the dye on the Choice medias are actually the same as on the Bulkpaq Gen 4 2X, however not 100% sure the MF ID is 100% identical. But i do know that physically they are the same Princo Manufactured dyes.

Hello MT, the Gen4 Bulkpaq's that I am using *do not* have the same Mfr.ID as either of the 'choice' 2x DVD-Rs that I have (both 'Choice' have exactly the same TDKG02.000000 ID).

I can't remember off the top of my head who that actually is.
