MT Media, I noticed that you said there were disc tests done on Xbox's and PS2's, How do you go about verifying the written data for an Xbox disc, as it is not possible to read Xbox discs on a PC at the present time (AFAIK).

I am very interested to hear how they verify.

MT_MEDIA -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/13/2002 12:24:27 AM)

Very easy.

Burn the image from within Primo DVD or RecordNow Max. For recording options choose: "Record and verify" , after the image file is written the recorded disc is verified sector by sector against the image file.

Sincerely // Mike

excellent, as simple as that.
Thanks for the info [:D]

john -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/13/2002 5:20:44 PM)

Here is an interesting post, if its true:

"...Pioneer states in an email to one big distributor in Europe that:

*Pioneer will give up the royalty fight about cheaper media
*Pioneer will release an updated firmware in January 2003.."

ReggieUK -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/13/2002 8:21:01 PM)

Yes, very interesting, it's a pity the FW update won't surface 'til Jan 03 :(

Also, interesting to note that they are also mentioning 4x media there too, But so far I haven't been able to source any in the UK :(

Any clues on that would be appreciated......

Costas -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/13/2002 9:09:09 PM)

ReggieUK: "...Not able to locate any 4x in the UK?..."
Some of us out here can hardly find 2x that actually are able to be recorded(!) in our Country![:D]
Seriously now, let's hope this firmware update, that John mentioned comes to our drives A.S.A.P. I am pretty tired of this situation...[V]

Dolphinius_Rex -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/13/2002 9:24:49 PM)

Well, all I can say on the 4x media is, it's out there, and READILY available from many suppliers now, unfortunatly, most retail outlets havn't picked it up, including my store. Why? still not enough demand. However, Ritek California's minimum order is 2000pcs only if someone wants to go direct to the source [;)]

I'm betting 4x media will surface in retail locations in the early new year.

MT_MEDIA -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/13/2002 10:37:47 PM)

We are stocking up huge (Scandinavia) on Datawrite and Traxdata 4X media after new years eve, demands still rather low here tho, even the prices are low.

john -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/14/2002 12:07:37 AM)

We got an offer for RITEK 4X DVD-R media, 1.3$ for 2000 pieces, anyone interested? [:D]

Huge amount for our tests, if you asking me, but the price seems right if the media works properly [:)]

MT_MEDIA -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/14/2002 8:35:28 PM)

Interested in a Pallet or 2, 30-60K discs if the price is right. But neeed to verify if the media is good enough first. Also, i suspect the sources you mention are US or outside Europe. That means a step up in price by 25% import tax and a shipping handling thats killing. We used to be reseller for US Digital Media before, and reason we arent anymore is/was due to insane shipping rates, or go by boat and wait 4 months for the goods to arrive [:p] . Dont know until january what pricing i get from our European sources, but my guess is it will be better then eg; US. Since it has been for the last 4 months on 1-2X DVD-R media.

Sincerely // Mike

john -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/14/2002 10:35:54 PM)

Yes you are right, the media offer comes from Taiwan, I had forgot the 25% tax in the EU [:(]

Dolphinius_Rex -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/14/2002 11:19:00 PM)

I'd offer to ship them from Canada, since I buy them cheap just south of the border in Ritek, California. But I don't think it would be any more cost effective for you guys [:(] If anyone's interested though, I'll ask my contact at Ritek for pricing.

Volcane -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/16/2002 3:54:18 PM)

hello,

so I got a 105 drive 2 weekends back, I bought some datasafe DVD-RW's, i got some BulkPaq Gen 4's and some Fujifilm "DVD-R for Data" disks.

All of these write fine, the BulkPaq's even write fine at 2x, they verify fine and all is well, BUT only in the drive it was burned in.

I have some other crappy drive thats circa 1999 and it reads the DVD-R's but just barfs on the DVD-RW (no surprise cos its too old).

It reads the Fujifilm fine, no errors, md5sum's are fine everything is dandy.

It reads the Bulkpaq's ok, up to about halfway through and then goes totally mad with errors and IDE bus resets and what not.

sigh.

I am wondering if its possible that its just the old crappy drive thats over the wall and needs a replacement or if my 105 is also fubar and like the rest of us I will just sit and wait for pioneer to unscrew us with their dodgy practises and release a new firmware.

Costas -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/17/2002 12:42:52 AM)

More working media.[:D] I have discovered an ALLSTAR(A.S.) DVD-R 2x, that records perfectly @ 1x and verifies too (no other info about company etc) The best part is that they come to me @ 2.5 euros each with a plastic case... Also DATATRACK DVD-R www.datatrack.de records perfectly (1x) and verifies ok too... I am expecting more media within the next couple of days... Let's just see if we can feel some happiness until the updated firmware comes out... [;)]

bigjohn -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/19/2002 4:34:20 PM)

i have a pioner 105 and never had any trouble at all
the discs i use are fws ..and they are exellent for multi movies
dont go near bulk pack because they are crap
it is all to do with the dyes the use

MT_MEDIA -> RE: Pioneer a05 Media compatibility list (12/20/2002 12:58:03 AM)

Several reports lately from customers with the later batches of Pioneer A05/105 confirms no problem at all with either writing or verifying att Princo Manufactures media (including Whitelabel, Bulkpaq, Datawrite and more) As well as Ritek manufactured (both earlier dyes and recent).

FW rev 1.00

Could this whole story from the beginning had been HW failure related on some batches? Makes one wonder. Have 2 new 105 here from the latest batch, will install and try for myself in 30 mins.

Sincerely

Mike
