Crysstaafur -> RE: Philips PCRW804 (3/27/2003 2:01:57 PM)

Concerning my last post a couple nights ago..
So far mixed results...
I took into account what I could find..
with the above message and tried that in
conjunction with a *re:complete sysetem defrag*
and letting the system cool down for at least an
hour <shrug>(apparently they tend to overheat easily) </shrug>
Also I reduced the amount of files to burn from 5000 files
total (not including folders) to about 100 or so and volia!! 8P
(reduction done by archiving with Winace)
I have yet to *fully* burn a 700 MB disc in it's current condition
(used to be able to quite easily before all this happened..)
but I *did* manage to burn 150MB total.
So the only thing I can suggest if anyone is in this situation:
1.)Don't burn a ton of files and if you need to, use a zip program
to condense the number of files to a few
2.)Defrag! especially the drive where the temp file is AND
the drive where your layout points to a majority of files.
3.)Let the system cool off for a while..
4.)Get everything (related) up to date as much as possible
5.)simlularly to item 1, if your drive is nearly full
(like mine was.. make a zip file of your stuff on that
partition, test it for integrity, then delete the unzipped
contents and maybe your data leaving just the zip, but
only if you are severly cramped ie 300MB on a 5GB drive partition
Good luck! I'll post some more info I figure out concerning this
particular situation if anything else pops out..
fyi: I had about 3 buffer underruns before I managed to figure
all this out.. so do be patient
in fact be *very* patient when updating the burner's prom, it took me
a little over an hour before it finished, the system may look frozen
just avoid the tempation to cut the power, in about 10 minutes you
should see somekind of progress even if it's just a simple icon change.. Hopes that helps someone out there.. l8trz

Crysstaafur -> RE: Philips PCRW804 (3/29/2003 12:55:50 PM)

I haven't had the chance to narrow things down even further yet,..
however, I was wondering if anyone knows of any diagnostic
programs for burners, this may let me know whether or not
this is either a *media* related error or a *hardware* error..
I am going to go through my stash of cd's to find some unused media made by a different company and see what happens..
I am hoping that it's the media and not the drive
or to put it another way,.. 10 or 20 bucks is easy compared to
100 or 200 dollars.. I have searched all over the web, albeit
googleizing the whole way, but with no avail except for a program
that diagnoses burnt cd's, but nothing that *actually* diagnoses the
hardware itself. any info would be wonderful 8P

Hi,
I'm new of this group. I've got a lot of problem with my PCRW804 since I've installed Windows 2000 on my pc.
The cd work well but it doesn't burn. I've checked the drivers but the installation of Windows installed generical drivers.
I've checked www.philips.com but I've not found then drivers.
Anyone have the drivers for PCRW804 for Windows 2000?
Thank you for your help.

Hi Laffin Assassin,

Would you please send me this ASPI FIX to bebebonit@hotmail.com, if possible?
I'm having the same problem that others have already reported; Power Calibration Error.
According to this thread the thing to do is to apply this ASPI FIX you've mentioned, ain't that right?

Greetings,
Socketeer.

Friends,

I am having a tough time using my Philips CDD 4801 CD-R/RW drive.

I was using this well till I tried to install SQL Server 2000 evaluation version. It tried to install and was fine till half-way and then suddenly it started giving me the problem. It says:

"The disk in drive D is not formatted. Do you want to format it?"

I tried with several data and music CDs. Its always the same error message. Can you guys please help me???? I would really appreciate if you could send a solution for my problem. I am using Windows 2000 edition and it was working fine till I tried to install SQL 2000. Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ramsi

riverlife -> RE: Philips PCRW804 (5/12/2003 9:37:26 PM)

I never would have guessed I'd have so much company in my trouble with my PCRW804! I'm having a similar problem as the rest of you, but different. My computer just suddenly stopped recognizing the cd-burner's existence two days ago, both in BIOS and in My Computer. Running the Add New Hardware Wizard finds nothing, and Win98SE doesn't autodetect any new Plug-and-Play devices.

I downloaded the fix from the FAQ, but everytime I run it, I get an illegal operation, and it quits. When I click Close, another error dialog box which I've never before seen comes up telling me that what the .exe was trying to do was going to be in effect too restrictive for my computer?

Anyone got any ideas? We use this thing to burn CDs at our studio, and so right now a whole lotta really good music is pilin' up! Help!

thank you!

riverlife
