I think i have ansewered this to other post, but Herrie will intoruce both Windows and DOS flashers, meaning you can make the NEC2500A v1.0X firmware to v1.07 DLBS

any ideas on when we can see this new firmware from herrie?

Laffin Assassin -> RE: NEC 2500A v1.07 with DL and Bitsetting (5/20/2004 10:12:52 PM)

Hi muzhik and Welcome to Our Forum !!! [:)]

I am sure it wont be long before it appears but that is down to Herrie and only him knows, so we can't give an exact time scale Sorry but we will let you know on Our Forum as soon as it is available !!! [:)]

As soon as Herrie finishes its work, probably it will take a while to get good stuff [;)]

nexxexium -> RE: NEC 2500A v1.07 with DL and Bitsetting (5/21/2004 1:29:45 PM)

Ok I went from retail 2500A 1.6 to 1.7 and then to Dangerous brothers K0P2 and now its a 2510A and DL.....

How do I go to the Herrie DL firmware and what is better with this firmware?...Bitsetting, what does that mean in layman's languague :)

Can someone clarify this?

emperor -> RE: NEC 2500A v1.07 with DL and Bitsetting (5/21/2004 3:06:28 PM)

With the DOS flasher you can go to the new Herrie's firmware when its available, it has improved writing strategies for many media and booktype setting, meaning you can change the ID of the burned media from DVD+R DL to DVD-ROM DL for higher compatibility

Thanks guys for all ur help. One question though, with Herrie's new firmware, can I flash it in windows or will I have to do it in DOS?

p.s. I just got my nec yesterday and flashed it to 2k5107b9a and it works like a charm, using memorex dvd+r, burns at 8x the last 50% using dvd decrypter, very nice job!!!

emperor -> RE: NEC 2500A v1.07 with DL and Bitsetting (5/21/2004 10:07:34 PM)

When Herrie releases firmware, it will include a windows flasher so no problem, the DOS flasher is for people with NEC2500A OEM drives or have used other firmware (for example 2510A firmware...)

ToWAH -> RE: NEC 2500A v1.07 with DL and Bitsetting (5/22/2004 1:22:45 AM)

hope herrie can rid the DL error size and bitsetting problems, but for the how long time i began to think not possible the upgrade at 100 % DL
keep the faith lol

jfca283 -> RE: NEC 2500A v1.07 with DL and Bitsetting (5/22/2004 4:01:24 AM)

At which firmware those problems occur?

There are some choices:

a) The Official v1.07 firmware
b) Unofficial v1.07 with Herrie's magic at it
c) Unofficial v1.07 with Herrie's magic at it and Double Layer

I haven't personally tested any of the above firmware, except the last one and only with Double Layer media, maybe other members can help [:)]

munwah -> RE: NEC 2500A v1.07 with DL and Bitsetting (5/22/2004 11:23:03 AM)

Hi everyone, I'm new to register to this forum, but I've been a big fan for some time now! [:)]

First off, I just wanna thank emperor for your excellent trials for 2500A DL and Laffin_Assassin for the recommendations. I recently bought an ND-2500A from newegg.

I've got a question, though. Since I bought it from newegg.com, I think it's OEM hardware, does everything still apply (compatibility with KOP or Herrie's new FWs)? I chose to buy this drive because of it's potential as a DL burner. Also, is there any difference in how I flash my OEM drive compared to, say, a retail drive? [&:]

emperor -> RE: NEC 2500A v1.07 with DL and Bitsetting (5/22/2004 1:50:46 PM)

Hi munwah and welcome to our forums, yes even OEM drives can used for the tested firmware

Kita -> RE: NEC 2500A v1.07 with DL and Bitsetting (5/22/2004 4:44:33 PM)

Hi Guys,

I'm also a Newbie [&:]. First of all, I want to thank you, too. Please keep the good work up! I'm a big fan of it! [;)]

Since, you are using LiteOn Drives to verify the DVD+R DLs, i wanted to contribute some lines of an article about DL which was published in the latest issue of the C't Magazine in Germany. They tested the new Philips DVDR885P and verified the outcome:

Translation:

"Although the DVD+R DL gets good grades in professional measurments, some drives have difficulties to read the second layer correct. This occurs not only in LiteOn Drives, but also in some drives from Phillips, BenQ, Pioneer and Xoro. The LiteOn XJ-HD 166S stopped reading shortly after the Layer-alteration. The latest DVD-Recorder[from LiteOn] SOHW-812S could read the second layer, but KProbe 2.1 showed considerably more PI- and PO-Errors than on the first [Layer]. The slighty risen Jitter and the high Asymmetry-Value of the Disc shouldn't cause the problem here, the read-errors are more likely caused by lacking drive optics."

There we have our firware for NEC2500 which support Dual Layer !! This is a modified version of the 1.07.
Thanks Herrie, you did great work !!

http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?p=113484#113484

And we can downgrade to the official version 1.07 of NEC. :)
Thanks to emperor for the test too :)
