Thanks.
Do you know if CRW-F1E with firmware revision 1.0f has features upgraded to CRW-F1DX level?

This is the behaviour of the CRW-F1E with firmware 1.0c and pressed audio CDs played with Winamp:

- Drive spins up to full speed for 15 seconds (relatively noisy for F1);

- Drive then spins down to almost silent for remainder of disc, even when searching tracks, skipping, etc.

Thanks for the info Alabaster. After some feedback in a dedicated silent-PC-Forum, i think I *wound* buy the Yamaha F1, because several people reported it to be considerably noisier than Plextor 48x. So I'll go either for the Plex48x or search for other options, like a black LG or samsung(???) writer.

Hmmm, that's really strange. I have the CRW-F1 and it's the quietest drive that I've ever "not heard" There is no excessive noise on spin up or down.

Well I have got both the Internal F1 and the External F1 and I don't get excesive noise from either of them but I also have a Plextor 48x and when it is running at full speed it sounds much noiser than either of the F1's !!!

Hehe, you guys are certainly not making my decision any easier ;)
So when those drives are spinning at top speeds (48x /40x) I'm sure BOTH would be way to noisy for me, so whats more interesting is what noises they emit during 'normal' non-Write operation. But i guess I'm jsut asking to much... most cd/dvd/cdrw verndors got so carried away with top speeds that they didn't realize how noisy their drives have become.

[:I]"Hehe, you guys are certainly not making my decision any easier"
Hehe, why are you so much concerned about headaches that haven't happen yet?![}:)]

Don't know about the Plextor but my Yamaha F1EZ is not that noisy, not at all. I'd hear not only it but even hard disks spinning. But can't because of the PC cover's fan.
I'd wish the Yama's noise become the most of my concerns!

Hi DarkLord
Any CD-Rom that runs over 32x will make a bit of noise and some make more than others !!!
But the Yamaha F1 hardly makes any noise and if you want to run at top speed you don't have to keep pressing the Eject button to get top speed and as I have already said it adjusts the speed all by itself unlike some other Brands of High speed Writers !!!
And at the price it is down to (less than £50 in the UK) it is a steal !!!
And the last and best thing Yamaha Customer Support is second to none and give you the support we have all come to expect from them !!!
But in the End the choice can only be made by You but I hope this helps !!!

About the 99min burning.
It doesnt work on my drive(Yamaha CRW-F1E Firmware Revision 1.0f) i tried to burn 93min with Nero(i have the correct settings), used Infiniti 99min cds. When %bar is at about 96-98% this error message comes "Following Track Error".
At first i burned at 16x didnt work then tried 4x still didnt work.
This site says it works in the F1DX review but gives no details.
http://www.medeainternational.com/info/90min.htm here you can see that it says its suppose to work up too 99:57. Has someone elese then me actually tried burning over 90min? And not just tested some simulation program?
88min works perfactly.
Anyone else who can share there experience? what brand of 99min media you used, speed, firmware revision etc

It was done with the 1.0f Firmware but sorry I can't tell you the speed as I never bother with adjusting the speed I just let the F1 make its own mind up !!!
