HI Jayzen!

Yup..I got it from PC Fair. The distributor is Peregrine Technology. I too was looking for it on the second day of the fair...but I couldn't find it....on the last day, by chance I happen to spot their booth in one corner of the hall...

Was burning some audio CDs last night..and encountered some weird problems...The drive attempted to burn the CD at 44 X...I previously tried read the ATIP of the CD...and could not determine the max write speed....when the burn process started, the drive could not decide how to burn it and the burn process failed....After trying to burn again at a lower speed, the drive would not respond and the LED kept on blinking....alternating between read..write..read..write..even though nothing was being written....A reboot would not fix the problem. I had to power off my machine for 1 minute....
The Disc T@2 feature also has a problem...it tends to detect the wrong burnable area, and when I try to burn the CD, it will just eject the disc....

Hi perror,

Thank you for the comments about the CRW-F1. We are working with Ahead to improve the DiscT@2 software. We appreciate all the comments from our users, and do take them all into consideration.

With regards to the problems you've experienced, I have not heard any CRW-F1 hardware problems in the U.S., so I can't comment on what may be happening with your drive. I would suggest contacting your local Yamaha subsidiary to discuss having the drive examined.

Best regards,

Hi Mark,

I think I can classify this as a total drive failure....it refuses to accept any disc...not even the ones that came with the box...all it does is the blue light keeps on blinking....and after a while it changes to purple..and stops blinking....Nero is unable to access the medium...I plan to take it to the distributor soon, but the problem is I have no assurance I will get back a new drive...and the fact that I forked out so much money for this drive sure makes that point worth looking at.

    Hi all,

I managed to track one down at dabs.com. It was delivered next day and installed, everything went very well except InCd!!! This caused explorer (windows XP pro) to hang on shutdown. (emailed Yamaha tech support regarding this... waiting for response)

But my overall impression of the drive is excellent, its quite, fast and I love the blue light. Unfortunately as I do not have any fast CDR media the drive will only burn at 16x, but using a fast CDRW the disk was formatted and ready in a few minutes...very very fast!

The Text function is really good, but again I need to get some new media to support this function.

    Hi yasa
I suggest you disable the built in Writing program in Windows XP and then try INCD again !!!

    Hi Perror!

I had the same problem as you!
    I even couldn't format a CD-RW.
Howerver, all I can tell is that it's not a drive-failure!

The support-team of yamaha told me to disable DMA of the CRW-F1!
Well, It can't write at full-speed now, but everything else works fine.
I need to change my MOBO and CPU to solve this problem.

@ Perror: What MOBO do you have?
I got an old no-name MOBO with via-chipset and AMD K6-500! IT'S about 2 or 3 years old!

@ll: What do you think about this?
I'm going to buy a new one within the next three months:
Epox 8k3a (via KT333)and AMD Athlon XP 2200+

    Hi Photonic
Well I have just built a new Computer to add to my Collection and the motherboard I recommend is the GA-7VRXP Based on VIA KT333 / 8233A(CE) chipset and it runs absolutly Superb with the AMD 2200 XP CPU and it has got more features than you can possibly want and it also has Raid and ATA 133 built in and to see more information about it you can go to :-
    http://www.gbt-tech.co.uk/products/7vrxp.htm
And something I thought I would never say is my Yamaha CRW-F1 works better in this computer than it does in either of my Intel Pentium 4's the reason for this I am not sure of yet !
But in the end the choice is yours !!!
    I hope this Helps !!!

I am thinking of getting an F1, primarily for the HS-RW side of things. I understand it writes to appropriate CD-RW media at 24x but does it also rewrite at 24x or are you limited to, say, 16x.

Does anybody know where in the UK I can buy 24x CD-RW media (or 16x media for that matter) (I have tried dabs, insight and cdevolutions - all without success)

Does the new 1.0c firmware improve the performance in the Mt. Rainer test suite (I know john says it now accepts the commands, but does it get any futher in the test suite) and does it allow it to read Key2Audio protected CDs

Many thanks if you got this far!!

    Andy

    AndyP,
When using a CDRW disk, it is considered rewriting even if you are doing it to a new CDRW disk that has never been written to. With that in mind, yes you can rewrite at 24x as long as you have a 24x CDRW disk.

We haven't tested the Mt. Rainier performance, cause YAMAHA said there are problems with the test suite. We will wait until this issue clears up.

Same as Laffin, I just got the drive (Yamaha OVERNITED!!! the drive to me). Anyway, first thing after installing the drive/software, I slapped in the cdrw and formatted it, and no problems so far.
