We are taking a look at a very interesting product from Vantec, called the AVOX Jukebox. It looks like many other 2.5" enclosures on the market, but not only does this one work as an external drive, but also a media player when hooked up to your TV. Good or gimmick? Read the review and see...

The heat that laptops can generate is one of the primary concerns for anyone looking at purchasing one. If you already own one you know not to take the term "laptop" too literally. Using a laptop cooler is really a great solution, but it is only as good as the cooling it provides. The Vantec LapCool 4 offers many things, not the least of which is it's ability to bring down temperatures. Along with cooling it provides some other essentials tools that make it even more valuable...

Keeping your hard drive at a healthy temperature is essential in prolonging it's life, and in keeping your data safe. We are taking a look at another Vantec HDD cooler called the Vortex 2, and we have high hopes for this one...

After a couple of hours of using this enclosure with the Seagate drive, I have had absolutely no problems with it. I have transferred approximately 132 GB of data over the past couple of hours (not non stop) and even during all that work, the case temperature never got above what I would consider warm. Not hot, but not room temperature either. I think the aluminum casing helps dissipate heat and that's why the overall temp of the enclosure is not anything near worrisome...

The Nexstar GX NST-370GX as you would expect supports 3.5" IDE (Parallel ATA) drive and uses a USB 2.0 connection. A Nexstar 3 enclosure to support eSATA (external Serial ATA) is already in the works. If the GX proves successful, future eSATA support has got to be on the drawing board for it as well...

There are heatsinks made for low noise computing, for overclocking, and then there are those built at an affordable price point which try to do both. The Vantec Mach 1 heatsink is such a heatsink; it's inexpensive and includes a sliding fan speed controller which adjusts the fan from 2800-to-3800RPM. The Vantec Mach 1 heatsink is compatible with sockets 478/754/939/940 thanks to a retention frame that accomodates both AMD Athlon64 and Intel Pentium 4 heatsink mounting spaces...

Hard drive a little hot around the collar? We are looking at a great looking cooler from Vantec. It's not an enclosure, but rather straps to the side of your drive. Let's take it for a test drive...

Nothing impresses me more than little gadgets that can do a lot. Expanding the HDD enclosure idea further, Vantec has created the AVOX. The AVOX is a 2.5 HDD enclosure that doubles, no triples, no QUADRUPLES as a Movie/Music/Photo player and a storage device. My title of "The little black box that could" is fitting for the AVOX and has me all amped up for this review. Pimps and Pimpettes, please have a look at the AVOX...

The Vantec NexStar GX (NST-370GX) is the ideal solution for anyone looking for more flexible external HDD space. The small grey unit comes with a three port USB hub embedded into the back of it. The Vantec NexStar GX supports a single 3.5" IDE hard drive (not included), and connects to the computer via a 480Mbps USB 2.0 cable. At 16.5 x 16.5 x 4cm in size, the Vantec NexStar GX is larger than a traditional external HDD enclosure, but not by too much. The Vantec NexStar GX is basically built to look like the Apple Mac Mini, and it can rest under or above that mini-computer quite comfortably...

The Vantec EZ-Swap MRK200-ST-BK only comes in black, and it supports the Serial ATA I standard although Serial ATA II drives will function just fine in it at reduced maximum peak thoughput. The HDD caddy is made of aluminum which should help keep high speed drives a littler cooler than plastic would. There is also a small 40mm fan at the back of the unit which pulls a little air through the unit. On the front of the HDD caddy is blue-illuminated LCD that displays the ambient temperature and has a few simple temperature related alarm controls...

Vantec's latest external IDE drive solutions for USB 2.0, is the NexStar 3 enclosure. This sleek black case accomodates any standard 3.5" IDE hard disk. As you might expect from Vantec, a company which first made its name with heatsinks, the outer shell of the enclosure is made of solid aluminium to help draw heat away from the drive inside...

A simple design and an excellent finish seem to be the best way to describe the NexStar 3. It did its job on converting a hard drive into extra storage that can be easily portable. In addition, it also frees up a 3.5 bay, leaving a primary drive more room to breathe. Just the fact of being able to have a large external hard drive makes me warm and happy. No more last-minute burning of art, music, or video files when I go to visit someone; which is a huge plus-just pack and go. Also, the aluminum body isolated hard drive noise and kept it cool. The substantial body is a great protector for any hard drive...
