Since that time, the company has expanded beyond just the initial thermal solutions and now provides a wide variety of components and devices for the PC enthusiast. Among the many products manufactured and distributed by Vantec are Storage Devices, Cooling Solutions for CPUs, Case, Memory, HDD and others; various Peripheral components; Cables of various kinds; Power Supply Units; PC Mod Kits; and Notebook Accessories and Supplies. A quick look at the distribution of Vantec products shows that the company?s reach is truly worldwide.

The packaging for each enclosure is nearly identical, with a photo of the drive on the front of the box as well as a few key features. The back of the box goes into further detail of the enclosure. Upon opening the box, we find a screwdriver, a set of screws, driver + installation disc, USB cable and the enclosure itself, tucked away securely in a leather carrying case.

Today I will be looking at my second 2.5" HDD enclosure in as many months, in the Vantec EZ-Swap EX 2.5" drive enclosure. This enclosure offers a different mix of features, which may prove to be more useful that those on the Icy Box.

The Vantec EZ-Swap EX portable hard drive enclosure. Vantec really pulled no punches when they produced this device. Not only does this lil puppy go anywhere you want it to (with a USB port), when you get home you can pop it into your desktop PC and have all of your data at even faster than USB 2.0 speeds!

The Vantec 5.1 audio adapter isn't for everyone. If you already have a soundcard in your system capable of outputting 5.1 channels, you probably won't need this, which adds another external device to the mix. However, if you have a laptop or other portable system, most of which only have stereo outputs, this adapter will be helpful, especially if you watch movies a lot and would like to take full advantage of your 5.1 speaker system. Watching movies with a full 5.1 channels is far better than listening to them in down-converted stereo mode. This is the audio adapter's intended use, as it quickly and easily adds 5.1 output support to any system, and does it well.

We've taken a look at a fair amount of external storage devices in the past, but here's one that's unique. At home, you can plug the drive in like a diskette for full S-ATA speeds, and eject it to take on the go with USB-functionality. To this point many external SATA enclosures haven't catch our attention; there have been quite a few mediocre enclosures we have laid our eyes on, but nothing that we felt was a godsend. However, recently the Vantec NexStar 3 managed to peak our interest so we decided to look at this enclosure, which supports 3.5" SATA 2.0 hard drives and an external interface of either eSATA or USB 2.0. Will the Vantec NexStar 3 be the drive enclosure we have been looking for?

Many stock coolers may get the job done, but the Vantec Iceberq 6 VGA Cooler may be just the upgrade for enthusiasts who aren't satisfied with just getting the job done. The Iceberq 6 dropped temperatures on the test GPU by about 13%, and as a bonus it dropped the case temperatures by about 10%.

The total install should take less then 3 minutes. One drawback I did notice when installing the hard drive is that there is a lack of a buffer between the case and hard drive. If the case were ever dropped, the hard drive would take the full shock of the fall.

You may have come across the need to share files across a network, but were concerned about security, reliability, and just having to keep a system running 24/7. Vantec has what they think is the perfect solution; The NexStar LX works as a NAS (Network Attached Storage) and USB 2.0 enclosure. It uses an open IDE connection, so you can simply use any size hard drive you want.

A little while ago we took a look at the USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE adapter with one touch backup. It proved to be a very useful device and very easy to use. Well if you are looking for a similar device, but do not need to one touch backup feature then the Vantec SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 adapter might be for you. Vantec products are always made with great quality, so lets see if the SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 adapter holds up to that standard.
