To this point many external SATA enclosures haven't catch our attention; there have been quite a few mediocre enclosures we have laid our eyes on, but nothing that we felt was a godsend. However, recently the Vantec NexStar 3 managed to peak our interest so we decided to look at this enclosure, which supports 3.5" SATA 2.0 hard drives and an external interface of either eSATA or USB 2.0. Will the Vantec NexStar 3 be the drive enclosure we have been looking for?

Vantec's latest external IDE drive solutions for USB 2.0, is the NexStar 3 enclosure. This sleek black case accomodates any standard 3.5" IDE hard disk. As you might expect from Vantec, a company which first made its name with heatsinks, the outer shell of the enclosure is made of solid aluminium to help draw heat away from the drive inside...

A simple design and an excellent finish seem to be the best way to describe the NexStar 3. It did its job on converting a hard drive into extra storage that can be easily portable. In addition, it also frees up a 3.5 bay, leaving a primary drive more room to breathe. Just the fact of being able to have a large external hard drive makes me warm and happy. No more last-minute burning of art, music, or video files when I go to visit someone; which is a huge plus-just pack and go. Also, the aluminum body isolated hard drive noise and kept it cool. The substantial body is a great protector for any hard drive...
