Fujifilm's FinePix S6500fd digital camera sports one key selling point: industry-first hardware-based face detection technology to enable the camera to recognise faces and optimise settings to get the best photograph in just 0.04 seconds. Along with Fujifilm's 6-Megapixel Super CCD sensor and Real Photo Technology II, impressive ISO 100 to 3200 sensitivity and Fujinon 10.7x (28 to 300mm equivalent) optical zoom lens, the FinePix S6500fd (Best Current Price: £218/$349) combines the photographic possibilities of a digital SLR with the ease of use of a compact. It's also very competitively priced.

About this time last year I reviewed the Fujifilm FinePix S9500. I was, to say the least, rather impressed by it. With its SLR-like handling and performance, a high quality 28-300mm manual zoom lens and some of the best picture quality I've seen on anything short of a top-end professional SLR, it earned the highest possible mark we have here - straight tens!

All in all, the FinePix F30 is a decent but not great point-and-shoot camera. If you stay away from the hyped ISO 3200 and just use it in Auto as well as Natural Light and Flash, you?ll be happy with the results.

Launched in July 2005, The S5600 (also known as the S5200 for the US market) is based on the successful S5500 launched the previous year. It is available from a number of online retailers for under £200, which is remarkably cheap considering the specification. It is a five megapixel camera featuring Fujifilm's advanced SuperCCD HR sensor and acclaimed Real Photo image processing engine, coupled with a powerful 38-380mm equivalent (10x ) optical zoom lens, and the promise of top quality pictures even at high ISO speeds...

Despite Fujifilm being one of the most successful and prolific manufacturers of digital cameras, and also having made some of my favourite cameras, for some reason I don't seem to review its cameras nearly as often as I would like. I haven't seen one since I wrote about the fantastic Finepix S9500 back in November of last year, and before that I have to go back to August to find my review of the then-new Finepix F10. I was pretty enthusiastic about that model, mainly because it broke new ground in high-ISO image quality and noise reduction. I wasn't the only one who liked it, because it was crowned EISA European Pocket Camera of the Year 2005/6. In view of that, it'll be interesting to see what the new F11 can do...

The Fujifilm FinePix E900 features a 9-megapixel 5th Generation Super CCD HR sensor Which makes it the highest resolution available in a consumer digital camera at the time of this review. The compact and lightweight FinePix E900 is the current flagship of Fujifilm's E-series. The fully automatic features of the E900 provide point-and-shoot simplicity, while manual and customizable feature settings provide additional control, particularly when combined with the power of optional lenses...

The FinePix S9000 is the world's first 9-Megapixel "SLR-like" digicam for advanced amateur photographers. It incorporates Fujifilm's groundbreaking Real Photo Technology, a 5th Generation Super CCD HR sensor, Fujinon 10.7x wide-angle zoom lens, high resolution color viewfinder and a tilting color LCD display...

The FinePix E900 feels great. The black-bodied digicam has a built-in grip that is very comfortable. The camera is studded with silvery metal accents, giving it a nice retro look and it's a pleasant change from the all-silver cases that are so prevalent in the 200-plus digital cameras available today. It weighs a light 9.2 ounces loaded with two AA batteries, xD Picture flash memory card and measures a compact 4 x 2.5 x 1.4 (WHD, in inches)...

With the S9500 Fujifilm has produced what is unquestionably the best fixed-lens camera currently available. Its SLR-like handling and performance make it a real pleasure to use, while its amazing picture quality and fantastic versatility are matched only by its price. A total bargain at £400, I predict that this camera will be selling by the truckload this Christmas, so get your order in early...

Pitched at the higher end of the snapshot market with a price tag of £225, the FinePix F10 is a decent-looking and well-made camera with conventional and even rather pedestrian styling. Measuring 92 x 58.2 x 27.3mm it sits toward the larger end of the scale for modern zoom compacts, and at 155g it's also surprisingly heavy for its size. It features a 2x optical zoom F2.8-5.0 lens, a 6.3 megapixel SuperCCD HR and a big 2.5in LCD monitor screen...

There can be no doubt that the FinePix Z1 is a great looking camera, and it will appeal to the fashion conscious social photographer. It has extremely fast performance, is easy to use and sufficiently robust to survive living in a handbag or coat pocket. It's just a shame that the image quality doesn't live up to the Z1's gorgeous exterior...

The 5.1 MegaPixel FinePix Z1 is a slim and stylish digital camera that is the perfect accessory for a night out on the town. The FinePix Z1's sleek and strong all-metal body is sure to draw attention. Available in two colors -- sophisticated black and a stunning brushed silver -- the Z1 is as trim as they come in the world of digicams, measuring a mere 18.6 millimeters thick - thinner than a deck of cards. This slenderness, which is possible thanks to a non-extending, refractive 3x optical zoom lens, allows the camera to stow easily in a pocket or small handbag for quick access when those special moments with friends occur...

The FinePix F10, incorporates a 6.3 MegaPixel Super CCD HR sensor with Fujifilm's new Real Photo Technology for improved picture taking in low light situations, more efficient power consumption and faster overall operation. It's fast - very fast, in fact - on par with the industry- leading Fujifilm FinePix E550. It goes from off to ready-to-shoot in a blink of an eye: a mere 1.3 seconds. The FinePix F10 also takes the "lag" out of shutter lag, firing a scant 1/100th second after the auto exposure/auto focus locks. For even faster operation, a High-Speed Shooting mode speeds up the exposure and focusing processes, making the capture of moving subjects a snap. This operating speed instills confidence that even the most unexpected moments will be saved by the user in famous Fujifilm color...

The FinePix A350 is the "big bother" to the FinePix A345 and currently the top of the line "A" series model that Fujifilm has to offer (as of 8/2005.) It is equipped with all the features found on its sibling, but increases resolution to 5-megapixels and features a larger 1.7-inch LCD (compared to the 1.5-inch display on the A345.) This simple point-n-shoot model allows the beginner to snap photos without fuss when using its "Auto" mode, while still offering several appealing features like adjustable White balance settings and Exposure Compensation when in the Manual mode. There's also four pre-programmed scene modes to choose from (Portrait, Landscape, Sport and Night) and you can also record movies with sound at 320x240 resolution...

The FinePix A345 is among the latest "A" series offerings from Fujifilm in 2005, and is equipped with a 4.1 megapixel imager complemented by a FUJINON 3x optical zoom lens. This simple point-n-shoot model allows the beginner to snap photos easily when using its "Auto" mode, while still offering several appealing features like adjustable White balance settings and Exposure Compensation when in the Manual mode. You can use one of four pre-programmed scene modes (Portrait, Landscape, Sport and Night) or record movies with sound at 320x240 resolution.
