Razal, the 3.22 firmware from I-O Data is 'original' firmware from NEC but specially made for I-O Data. When flashing this firmware you will see that it is named NEC 3520 instead of I-O Data 3520. I-O Data firmware is always rebadged to NEC. But yes, NEC itself did not released a 3.22 firmware but it is still original firmware. Do you get it [;)]

Hawk maybe its even better to wait for the 3540A drive, supposed to hit the market very soon!

ok so the rebadged i-odata 3.22 firmware is still an original firmware so it wont void my warranty?

Hello,

I have a stock NEC3520A with 1.04 firmware and just wanted to confirm the following before I do flash it. I want to be able to have bit setting , RPC1 and Riplock removed. I guess my options are the following

1.25 from TDB
1.U8 from Liggy and Dee

Are there any other options? Which one is the safest one? Also, do I need to reinstall my drivers after I reflash?

Finally is the following procedure correct for flashing the drive:

1. Get the flashers (binflash for U8 or TDB flasher) and the firmware
2. Backup the original firmware
3. Boot into Dos
4. Run the flasher and flash the drive
5. reboot

Will I need to reinstall drivers? Also does the 1.25 (which is based on IOData) from TDB change my drive from NEC to IOData?

Thanks in advance!!!

if you go to scorpio's site, it has all the different firmwares for the 3520 and what features it has.
If you have winxp, after the flash/reboot, it will automatically detect and install the drivers again (atleast thats what happened for me).
Im not sure which is the safest so no comment.
to flash your drive, i find getting binflash GUI to be much easier because you can do a flash with a couple of clicks. Its also on the same site.

Is there any difference between the IO 1.25 and the IO 1.26 firmware update?

I mean, should I upgrade it? I've allready the IO 1.25...

could someone help me? I just bought a new black OEM 3520a but i can't seem to burn with it.
the only media i have is dvd-r 2X (must 001). nero just keeps spitting it back out.
the shipped with firmware is 1.04.

ciroopi -> RE: NEC 3520A and OEM official firmware overview! (3/24/2005 1:08:09 PM)

hi!

few questions:

i upgraded my original nec 3520A firmware with 1.26 days ago.
now, what about 3.22?
i have to flash it or not?
which are the changes?

'cause it seemed also 1.26 could handle DVD-R DL format -or not?

-btw, i already flash the drive but i'd like to know if it's good ;)

what kind of DVD's are they? (brand/media code)

to ciroopi, the most notable change in 3.22 is the ability to read/write Dual Layer DVD-R media and NO, 1.26 did not support dual layer DVD-R, 3.22 is currently the only firmware for the 3520 that supports DL DVD-R. You never haveto update firmware, just update if theres a feature that you might need.

ciroopi -> RE: NEC 3520A and OEM official firmware overview! (3/24/2005 5:17:35 PM)

thanks rahzel.

oen more question...
now the drive is shown as ND-3520AW

what does that W means?

it's not going to void the warranty if you have a IO Data burner. if you've got an NEC OEM thing, then technically you are voiding your warranty.

if something goes wrong, go back to an NEC firmware (the NEC firmware for the NEC "branded" drives, not IO Data).

HAL -> RE: NEC 3520A and OEM official firmware overview! (3/25/2005 12:36:01 PM)

Hi @ all,

like emperor sugested, I made a backup from the orig.firmware of my NEC3520a.
I realized that it has a newer nec firmware on it. Where should I upload it to?

scorpiosoft -> RE: NEC 3520A and OEM official firmware overview! (3/25/2005 1:27:38 PM)

This new 1.04 version can already be downloaded from my firmware site. For link see below.

emperor -> RE: NEC 3520A and OEM official firmware overview! (3/25/2005 1:35:01 PM)

The 3.22 firmware makes your 3520A -> 3520AW, meaning it adds DVD-R DL capabilities, its suggested to use, has bitsetting but no PI/PIF...Warranty is not void, since your drive still showed at NEC.[;)]
