Thanks for the quick reply emperor. Sorry for the redundant question, I thought I had read over everything but your answer was right on the first page:

thanks for your help, is there any other way to boot in dos mode without using floppy disks? i am using winxp and i have only 3 floppy disk in total.. i think xp requires 7 disks, i will get some floppy tomorrow, but meanwhile if anyone have some better ideas please let me know.. thanks in advance

i think you're talking about the Floppy Disks to reinstall XP. you don't need that. you just need a boot disk with DOS. go here:
http://www.bootdisk.com/

good luck.

thanks drewsk, yes i was able to updated the firmware to v1.25, but only the 1.25 original firmware works, my computer still gives me blue screen and reboot itself after the drive is detected on loaded for the other two modified firmware, (Rip Lock Patch, RPC1 and Rip Lock Patches) --

even with the orginal 1.25 i still have that blue screen and rebooting problem while burning, it happen twice for burning 4 dvds last night, it's very annoying.. dose anyone have a solution to this problem with their NEC 3520A OEM drive? what usually cause problems like this? dose it have something do the with the powersupply? but i have a Antec True 500W Powersupply, thats fairly decent, i assume it can handle it.. anyways....here's my system spec,

CPU: Intel P4 3.0 ghz 800psb
M Board: MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R
POWER SUPPLY: Antec true 500W
RAM: 2x512 Kingston HyperX DDR PC3200
Graphic Card: PNY Nvidia Quadro FX 1000
HDs: 2x 80gb Segate SATA (Raid 0), 80gb Western (Sec master), 80 gb Maxtor (Sec slave)
DVDROM and CDRW Combo drive: Samsung 16x 8x (or something like that .. don't remeber exactely)
DVDR Drive: NEW 3520A OEM

I am just shooting in the dark.. not sure if these information would be helpful or not.. also i will try to mess around with the BIOS setting when i am home tonight, any help would be greatly appreciated.

peace [;)]

If you are stuck try using the firmware from the Mad Dog Md-16XDVD9A2. It is the same as a ND-3520a NEC developed the Flash.

The web site is http://www.maddogmultimedia.com/support/drivers.asp

Look under Firmware Update for the Mad Dog Md-16XDVD9A2.

Are there any problems reported with the use of the official 1.F3 firmware from Mad Dog ?

hi, i just got a Nec 3520a OEM and i'm trying to get my PC (Win XP) to read it. I went to read the "Basic stuff" at http://www.cdrinfo.com/forum/tm.asp?m=93724&mpage=1&key=nec%2C3520a and honestly, after reading it 3 times, I'm still clueless as to what to do. specifically, I don't quite understand all the jargon that is used. could someone break down the instructions as to what I specifically have to do in detail step wise, please. Sorry, I gave an honest try but am frustrated at not being able to get it to work.
Forgive my beginner's cluelessness,
MB

I am using LD3520_1U6.zip by Liggy & Dee modified. It includes LD3520 1.U6 (Beta 6) Quiet firmware BIN file. Meaning that there is no rip lock. It just allows me so that you can not change a DVD+R to read as a DVD-Rom. After flashing the ND-3520a, I ran WinBTypeV2.exe from the Mad Dog web site. I was able to change the book value from DVD+R to DVD-Rom.

franz99, if you use the Mad Dog version, then the name of your drive will change to Mad Dog. The version is exactly the same LD3520 1.U6 (Beta 6) Quiet firmware. It is a windows version, so first backup your 1.04 original firmware, then you flash with the quiet one.

emperor -> RE: NEC 3520A and OEM official firmware overview! (3/12/2005 5:37:35 PM)

maybe its a defect drive, have you tried to flash your drive at other PC system?

Quikee -> RE: NEC 3520A and OEM official firmware overview! (3/18/2005 8:15:41 PM)

A new firmware for 3520 from IO-DATA has been released.. version 3.22.. 3520 now supports DVD-R DL. It's on ScorpioSoft's firmware page.
It doesn't support PI/PIF however.
emperor: You have to try firmware this with your DVD-R DL discs. =)

emperor -> RE: NEC 3520A and OEM official firmware overview! (3/19/2005 9:01:23 AM)

* Updated 19/3/2005
- Added 3.22 for IODATA 3520A OEM (Supports DVD-R DL writing!)
