bobsch -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (5/3/2005 1:02:24 AM)

My experience with the ND-6500A was a little different than most of the ones I've seen in this Forum.

The only computer I can use to fix the 6500A firmware for my Toshiba Satellite M30 is an old P3 machine running Windows 98SE. The original available IDE connections was two optical drives installed as master and slave. I removed the cable and power from both of them and using an IDE adapter I connected the 6500.

I booted from a floppy and was able to run 6500BOOT with no errors.

Since I was not able to hot switch in the M30, I booted the P3 machine again from the floppy and ran 6500MAIN. Part of the way thru the batch file, I got an "error on drive A: -- Abort, Retry, Ignore or Fail" message. I assumed the floppy was bad so took it to another computer which said it was OK. I made a new floppy and got the same result.

I assume there is no firmware in the drive if I correctly understand how 6500BOOT/MAIN work. So I've got the 6500 with a flashing LED and don't know what to do next.

I could use a little advice.

probably you need to use the DOS flasher and try flashing your drive with a firmware, you can find this at the http://tdb.rpc1.org

utotka -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (5/9/2005 11:40:28 PM)

This topic has seemed to grow, ive read all 12 pages of this topic and im thinking hard about flashing my newly arrived (today) 6500a. I currently am using a toshiba m30 and believe i am experience the same problems as sensei with the ide #2 errors. I decided that i want to try the flash of 6500boot and main but i cannot find 6500main. I found 6500boot on the first page of this forum but if anyone or emperor can email me the file that would be great. Also just a quick overview of what to do.

Thanks
Chris

Hey I'm new to this forum, but I have a news flash. I bought a Dell Inspiron 6000 with a 6500A drive, and the installed firmware was 2.02C. Today on Dell's website they have a new version: 2.03D. I haven't tried it yet, but I'll let you know when I do. I thought that others might be interested in the new firmware on Dell's support website.

ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/rmsd/203d.ZIP

or

http://ftp.us.dell.com/rmsd/203d.ZIP

I don't know if these links work directly, or if you have to log into Dell's website first.

anyone know are there any modified firmware compatible with the Dell version of the 6500a ?

I am looking for the riplock remove and bitsetting feature.

thanks

MP3Mogul -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (5/14/2005 4:56:22 PM)

I saw this version released from NEC as well.  It should not be too long before a bitsetting/riplock firmware is released from our friends, but they will only do so if there is anything significant in the firmware update.

emperor -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (5/15/2005 3:21:46 PM)

- Updated 15/5/2005

would like to know about where to get the bin too, does this bin a modified version of dell? does it have feature like riplock remove and bitsetting enable?

MP3Mogul -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (5/16/2005 5:23:04 AM)

No it does not have riplock removed, nor does it offer bitsetting.  I found it for download on NEC's Eurpoe site.  If there are significant changes to this firmware, I'm sure we will see a Liggy's firmware.
