Samsung Introduces First LED Light Sourced DLP Rear Projection HDTV

Samsung Introduces First LED Light Sourced DLP Rear Projection HDTV

Consumer Electronics May 24,2006 0

Samsung's LED light sourced DLP rear projection HDTV promises significantly improved longevity, increased color gamut reproduction, quicker turn-on time and greater environmental friendliness. The HL-S5679W operates longer and quieter than previously designed light engine based rear projection TV sets. This model also replaces the current UHP bulb with a high-powered LED light source, called PhlatLight that has a single chip DLP light engine, which doesn't require a color wheel and provides improved longevity. Red, green and blue high-powered LEDs sequentially fire to produce color. The LED light engine also ensures a longer lamp life (20,000 hours without brightness degradation) and a shorter turn-on time (seven seconds), according to Samsung. The engine is also mercury-free making it more environmentally friendly.

Featuring true high definition 1920 x 1080p resolution and Samsung's Cinema Smooth light engine with Texas Instruments DLP technology, the HL-S5679W promises on-screen clarity and vividness. Two 1080p HDMI inputs, which are compatible with the latest 1080p source content, provide plug and play connectivity for digital devices, while the Cable Card feature allows the TV to be used without a cable box.

The HL-S5679W is shipping in September at a $4,199 MSRP. Samsung also announced a new 46" Slim DLP 720p model. The device features a cabinet only 10.6 inches deep and its weight is less than 50 pounds. Thanks to its slim cabinet, the TV can be placed in an armoire or shelf mount with a width opening dimension of under 42". The HLS4676S 46" Slim DLP-720p offers a 1280 x 720p HD resolution and an SRS TruSurround XT sound system. The built-in HDTV tuner (ATSC) lets users access digital broadcasts while enjoying digital sound and picture from the dual HDMI connections, which also connects with other digital devices, such as DVD players. A Game Mode is also included in the TVs features, which delivers graphic optimization, dark area enhancements, increased response time, and improved sound capacity for the latest video games on the market. Digital cameras and other storage devices can be connected through a USB 1.1 to display your digital photos on screen. And a PC-input provides an easy connection to a notebook or computer. The 46" HLS4676S Slim DLP-720p is available for $1,999 MSRP.
