ASUS CPU Adaptor Brings Quiet and Cool Performance of Notebook Processor to Desktop Computing

ASUS CPU Adaptor Brings Quiet and Cool Performance of Notebook Processor to Desktop Computing

PC components Mar 22,2005 0

ASUSTeK Computer introduced the CT-479 CPU Upgrade Kit, which brings the quiet and cool performance of the Intel Pentium M , Socket 479 processor for notebooks onto ASUS' qualified Socket 478 desktop motherboards. Unlike other manufacturers that incorporated the Socket 479 directly onto the motherboards, ASUS motherboards with the CT-479 CPU Upgrade Kit offer greater flexibility, allowing users to support both the 478 and 479 processors, including the latest 533MHz FSB Dothan platform, on one single motherboard.

To maintain stability in the small space of notebooks without effecting performance, notebook processors are designed to operate at lower voltage and lower temperature, enabling the cooling fan to run at slower speeds to reduce noise.

The CT-479 further provides FSB (front-side-bus) jumpers for CPU support flexibility. Depending on the purchased CPU, users can select bus frequency of 533MHz or 400MHz, while competing solutions support 400MHz only. Enjoying quiet and cool operation no longer means sacrificing computing performance. To build an ultra cool and reliable system to handle CPU resource-hungry applications, the CT-479 bundled a quiet cooling fan made specifically for the Pentium M processor.

The CT-479 and ASUS Socket 478 motherboard together are much more cost effective than competing Socket 479 motherboards and provides superior performance. The ASUS solution offers four DIMM slots, maximum 4GB memory support, dual-channel DDR 400 architecture and AGP 8x graphics standard, while other manufacturers are still incorporating out-of-date features.

Currently, the CT-479 supports the ASUS P4P800 SE and P4P800-VM motherboards and the Intel Pentium M processor series. More ASUS motherboards will pass the stringent compatibility test in the near future. Please go on to the ASUS company homepage for the most updated list of qualified motherboards and processors.
