CDW Focuses on Customer Satisfaction with Help from VERITAS Software

VERITAS Software Corporation announced that CDW Corporation, a Fortune 500 provider of technology products and services for business, government and education, has reduced the time required for content replication for its Web site by 80 percent using VERITAS software.

CDW offers customers a portfolio of e-commerce and value-added services to help them acquire the right technology for their organization. This includes CDW's Web sites which accounted for more than $1 billion of the company's $4.7 billion in 2003 sales. The company recently upgraded its Web sites to Microsoft Windows 2003. With more than 150,000 users to the site each weekday, CDW looks to VERITAS Software for technology to replicate Web site code and content. This helps to provide CDW customers with a consistent, high quality experience each time they visit the site.

CDW needed to have Web content consistent among the company's many Web servers so that all customers would have the same shopping experience. They selected VERITAS Storage Replicator, an easy to use, flexible and reliable replication technology for Windows platforms. Storage Replicator is designed to deliver continuous data consistency without slowing down normal server operations.

"We would spend at least 10 hours each week managing our storage replication solution," said Alex Osegueda, Network Engineer at CDW. "Now, using VERITAS Storage Replicator, the speed and productivity gains have enabled us to reduce the time spent managing our solution by 80 percent.Replication speed alone dropped by 75 percent with virtually no impact on server and Web site performance."

"Time is of the essence for Web site developers, who must ensure the most accurate and up-to-date Web content possible," Osegueda continued. "Because VERITAS Storage Replicator is easy to use and reliable, it enables our developers to focus resources on enhancing our site's functionality."

VERITAS Storage Replicator helps users eliminate backup limitations by efficiently replicating data to a central location, either continuously or on a predetermined schedule. Its powerful centralized management console allows all replication jobs to be set up and administered from a single location so administrators don’t need to connect to individual servers to replicate data in different parts of the organization. This saves companies like CDW valuable time and reduces the complexity of managing a large number of replication jobs. VERITAS Storage Replicator can also be used to replicate critical files for Windows disaster recovery.

Because CDW performs several scheduled replication jobs along with approximately a dozen continuous replications each day, processor consumption is a key consideration. VERITAS Storage Replicator is able to save time and bandwidth by copying only the data that has changed. VERITAS Storage Replicator also makes it possible to replicate data from one centralized server to a farm of servers ensuring that all servers have identical copies of the data.

CDW also uses VERITAS BackupExec™ software as the foundation for the company's backup and recovery system.
