Samsung Reveals 2016 SUHD TV Lineup, Galaxy TabPro S, And New Gear S2 At CES

Samsung has not made a step into the OLED technology for TVs, and remains comitted to the Quantum-dot LCD technology for its new line-up of SUHD TVs.

The company says that the new 2016 SUHD TVs offer unparalleled picture quality with Quantum dot display, a bezel-less curved design and Samsung's IoT hub technology, allowing the TV itself to act as the controller for the entire smart home.

Samsung’s 2016 SUHD TVs feature a cadmium-free, 10-bit Quantum dot display. All of the Samsung SUHD TVs will feature the ability to provide a premium high dynamic range (HDR) experience, with 1,000 nit HDR minimum for a higher level of contrast between light and dark images. New Ultra Black technology also significantly reduces light reflection, further enhancing picture quality with minimal glare.

Four years after introducing the first Curved TVs to the world, Samsung has designed the first bezel-less Curved TV, the KS9500 SUHD TV.

In keeping with this design ethos, Samsung has sought to eliminate all unnecessary elements, even removing screws from the rear of the TV.

Built on the Tizen operating system(OS), Samsung’s 2016 Smart TVs make it easier to discover and access content and services, from TV and movies to games and program information, all in one place.

The 2016 Smart Hub is designed to provide users with simple access to content all in one place. Live TV, over the top (OTT), games and even the menu that appears on the home screen of the Samsung Smart TV allows users to access their favorite programs as soon as they turn on the TV.

  • Samsung Smart Control remote - The new Samsung Smart TV eliminates the need to juggle multiple remote controls. The Samsung Smart TV will automatically recognize the type of set-top box, game console, OTT box or home theater system that is connected to the TV. This allows users to control all of the external devices with the Smart Control remote - with no setup required.
  • Console-less Gaming - Consumers can enjoy the most realistic gaming experience on a large screen without the need for a console. More than 500 streaming and downloadable games will be available on the 2016 Samsung Smart TVs. Recent additions for PlayStationNow include Assassin’s Creed III, Batman: Arkham Origins, The LEGO Movie and many more.
  • EXTRA Service - With a push of the EXTRA hot button on the Samsung Smart Control remote, information related to the content will appear onscreen instantly. Users can see player profiles and stats during sporting events, information on cast members for their favorite TV shows and more.
  • Smart View - The Samsung Smart View mobile app allows users to share content instantly with their family. The upgraded Smart View is now available beyond Samsung Galaxy devices, supporting Android and iOS devices, as well as Window PCs. Popular apps and websites including AccuWeather, Crackle, iHeartRadio, M-GO, Plex, Pluto.TV, UFC, Vimeo, YuppTV and more are all also Smart View enabled.
  • More access to content - Streaming UHD movies and TV shows from providers such as Amazon, M-GO, and Netflix and accessing apps such as YouTube has gotten even easier. UHD technologies developed by NeuLion will also enable a selection of sporting events to stream UHD Consumers can also connect Samsung’s new Ultra HD Blu-ray Player via HDMI (2.0a) for access to UHD movies with HDR. Direct access to live programming from providers such as Dish and Time Warner Cable is simplified.

TV becomes the Controller for the Connected Home

All 2016 SUHD TVs feature IoT hub technology, developed by Samsung with SmartThings. The SUHD TV can connect with and control over 200 SmartThings compatible devices - whether it’s to see who is ringing the doorbell, lock the doors or turn off the lights - all from the TV.

The new feature also allows consumers to program a routine that puts the TV in the appropriate picture settings for a movie and activate the soundbar and surround system while watching TV. For the full support of connectivity with SmartThings compatible devices, a SmartThings Extend USB adapter is required.

Samsung’s First Ultra HD Blu-ray Player

Samsung also unveiled its first Ultra HD Blu-ray Player, the UBD-K8500, which is HDR compatible and offers four times the resolution and 64 times detailed color expression of a conventional Blu-ray player. It features a curved front design, and is available for pre-order now and for purchase in the U.S. in March 2016.

The UBD-K8500’s built-in upscaling technology enhances the picture quality from standard Blu-ray discs and DVDs, and consumers can also play CDs.

Samsung has partnered with Hollywood studios to ensure consumers have a selection of Ultra HD Blu-rays with HDR picture quality. This year, 20th Fox is slated to release more than 100 4K Ultra HD discs with HDR including films like The Martian, Peanuts, and among others.

Samsung Gear S2 Greets the New Year with New Collection

Samsung also today announced two new editions of the Gear S2 classic, one encased in 18K Rose Gold and another in Platinum.

With the successful launch of the Gear S2, Samsung is openly working with partners to provide more convenience and expanded user capabilities. CNN and Bloomberg Gear S2 apps, together with its watch face feature, have been a few of the more popular apps followed by a variety of watch faces and convenient apps like eBay, ESPN, Uber and Voxer.

The new Gear S2 classic will include NFC technology to offer Samsung Pay, which will be available to Gear S2 users early this year starting in the U.S.

For a more personal and customizable experience, Samsung is expanding its line of watch straps and watch face options. Samsung has partnered with exclusive designers, such as Colombo, on premium watch straps for the Gear S2, and has introduced fun and creative watch faces including Peanuts characters and artworks from Keith Haring, Jean-Michael Basquiat, Jeremyville and Burton Morris.

The new Gear S2 classic will be available in Rose Gold case with an Ivory Genuine Leather Band and in Platinum case with a Black Genuine Leather Band beginning in February.

The tablet delivers full PC functionality with both Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro for business.

The keyboard’s touchpad emulates that of a PC to provide easy control, even when used in Stand Mode.

The tablet is featuring a 12-inch Super AMOLED multitouch screen and a deep color contrast with 94 percent of natural tones.

It is also the first tablet, powered by Windows, to support LTE Cat 6. New Samsung Notebook 9 Laptops

Samsung has added two new laptops to the Notebook 9 line: the 13.3-inch Notebook 9 and the 15-inch Notebook 9.

Weighing less than 2.9 pounds thanks to the magnesium chassis, the Notebook 9 solves the problem of lugging around a heavy laptop . The 13.3-inch weighs just 1.85 pounds, making it one of the lightest PCs on the market.

The new 15-inch model features a slim bezel, which allows the laptop to fit into the chassis of a traditional 14" model without losing the extra inch on the superior display.

Both models offer all-day battery life. Should users need to power up before a big meeting or presentation, the 15-inch Notebook 9 charges to over two hours in just 20 minutes with Samsung’s Fast Charging technology.

Samsung has brought the technology used in their TVs and monitors to both Notebook 9s, giving users big screen quality in a portable size. Both devices feature a Full HD PLS display with wide viewing angles. Both models have a 180 degree hinge and also feature an anti-glare coating.

Both laptops also work wirelessly within Samsung’s ecosystem, allowing users to connect across devices without the hassle of cords and display ports. Samsung Link 2.0 allows users to share files between their Samsung PC and the latest Samsung Galaxy smartphones, tablets and Smart TVs. Users can also mirror their Samsung Galaxy smartphone on the Notebook 9 wirelessly with Samsung SideSync.

The new Notebook 9 laptops will be available beginning in early 2016. Samsung will also be launching a new Notebook 9 13.3" laptop with Windows Professional in early 2016.
